Collect
18 Pentecost

O God, you declare your almighty power chiefly in showing mercy and pity: Grant us the fullness of your grace, that we, running to obtain your promises, may become partakers of your heavenly treasure; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

"Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith will save the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up." James 5:14-15
Dearly Beloved in Christ,

Are you suffering? Saint James exhorts you to pray.
Are you cheerful? He asks you to praise God in prayer.
Are you sick? He says that you should call for the elders of the church so that they might pray over you, anointing you with oil in the name of the Lord.

The invitation to come and receive the laying on of hands, anointing and prayer for healing is offered at every single Eucharist here at Good Shepherd precisely because we are told in God's Holy Word that that is what we are to do.  It is why the Order of St. Luke the Physician is so very important in the life of the congregation.  But note this - it is important to specifically ask for prayer, because faith in the Lord's ability to heal is acknowledged in the asking. It is also important to come for prayer with a clean heart before God, with any remembered sins confessed and repented of.  This is why the prayers for healing come after the confession of sin has been recited, the absolution given, and forgiveness received.

So beloved, if any are sick, call or come and we will pray over you, and anoint you with holy oil in the name of the Lord for his healing power to save you, and raise you up.  For in the Lord is the wholeness we seek.

In the Peace, Grace, and Love of our Lord,

Rev'd Sarah+

YANKEE CANDLE FUNDRAISER!
Our last Yankee Candle Fundraiser brought in a nice (and needed) income that helped with our operating expenses.  Dari van Hissenhoven has once more stepped in to coordinate this fundraiser (thank you, Dari!)  She and others will be available at the services between now and October 14 to take orders or hand out packets to those of you who would be willing to sell these in your places of business, social gatherings, fitness clubs, etc.   Thanks as always to everyone for your willingness to support all that the Lord is doing here with your time, talent, and treasure!

SERVING SCHEDULES
Thanks to all of you who serve in our worship services!  We are so thankful to Linda Sue Saunders for putting together the serving schedules each month. She receives the information that goes into the schedules from the coordinators of the different ministries: Altar Guild, Acolytes, Flower Guild, Ushers, Lay Eucharistic Ministers.
These schedules are posted on the website in the Resources Page during the first week of every month.  They are mailed out or emailed to those who participate in these ministries.  They are also linked on the side panel of each weekly e-news.  Please make sure to check the schedule and contact the coordinator of the ministry if there are repeating conflicts that need to be resolved.  The best way to do this is by email rather than speaking with them on a Sunday morning when there is a lot going on.  If the problem is not resolved please email the coordinator again with a cc to the rector.  If you have a one time only conflict please find a substitute and let Terri Sims know so that she can make the change on the sacristy copies. Please also make sure we have the most up to date phone/email information so that we can keep the communications flowing!

I am the Good Shepherd.  The Good Shepherd lays down his life for the sheep ... I am the Good Shepherd.  I know my own and my own know me, just as the Father knows me and I know the Father; and I lay down my life for the sheep.
