Collect
17 Pentecost

Grant us, Lord, not to be anxious about earthly things, but to love things heavenly; and even now, while we are placed among things that are passing away, to hold fast to those that shall endure; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

"Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you." James 4:7
Dearly Beloved in Christ,

There is no doubt in James' mind as to the origin of bitter jealousy, selfish ambition, boasting, and falsehood - this kind of behavior finds its source in the devil.  And the fruit of this behavior is disorder, division, fighting, and partisanship.  (James 3:13-18)

Behavior that is peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy, sincerity, and impartiality however finds its source in God.  And the fruit of this behavior is peace and righteousness.

There is a clear path to move from one kind of behavior to the other - resist the devil and draw near to God.  If we don't ask God for his help we won't receive it, but we have to be careful about our motivation - are we asking "wrongly" for worldly reasons or are we asking in alignment with God's will?

God grant us the strength to surrender to his will, to resist the devil and draw near to him and we shall reap the amazing rewards of peace and righteousness.

In the Peace, Grace, and Love of our Lord,

Rev'd Sarah+

HEALING MINISTRY TRANSEPT

This Sunday was our first Sunday with the Epistle Side (East)
Transept uniquely dedicated to the healing ministry.  There is now plenty of room for people to sit or kneel in separate pews and have the comfort to share in complete privacy their prayer needs.  There is no time limit, no need to rush, no need to worry that what is shared will remain private.

OSL
It is perhaps also time to remind everyone that members of the Order of St Luke the Physician have all acknowledged and signed a Covenant of Confidentiality, and understand that any breach of confidentiality means that they will no longer be able to participate in this ministry.

It can take courage to be vulnerable enough to ask for prayer, but it delights the Lord when his people trust him with all their needs.  And we have seen the Lord's healing grace at work through this ministry in so many ways.
With the move to the transept for the prayers for healing the altar rail that was dedicated to the healing ministry is now open for everyone to receive communion.

I am the Good Shepherd.  The Good Shepherd lays down his life for the sheep ... I am the Good Shepherd.  I know my own and my own know me, just as the Father knows me and I know the Father; and I lay down my life for the sheep.
