"Bring forth in us the fruit of good works."
From the collect for the 14 Sunday after Pentecost BCP
Dearly Beloved in Christ,

In Sunday's epistle Saint James exhorts us to "be doers of the word, and not hearers only."  Our "good works" cannot save us, this only the Savior can do, but we will be blessed in our doing says Saint James.

It is never enough just to hear the word, to have the word feed us, for our feeding is never for ourselves alone, we are fed so that we can share the food, so that we can feed others.

The collect petitions God to bring forth "the fruit of good works" in us.  Fruit grows because of the correct nutrients that are taken in through the roots, and because of the right amount of sunshine and rain.  But often times the fruit is sweeter when the plant has had to survive a cold winter.

This is true for us also - a hard spiritual winter season gives way to a fruitful summer season.  And the fruit of good works that are brought forth after such a season are sweet indeed.  May you know the blessing of such fruitfulness.

In the Peace, Grace, and Love of our Lord,

Rev'd Sarah+

Weekly Choir rehearsals will resume on Thursday, September 6 from 7-9 pm in the Choir Room. All men and women who feel called to help lead the singing at the 10:30 am service are warmly invited to join our faithful core of choir volunteers. Qualifications are: a pleasant singing voice, a willingness to listen and learn, and a heart for service. Previous music training welcome, but not required. Call Patty Neff for more info at 321-281-7918.

Our Good Shepherd MOPS group begins meeting on Tuesday, September 11 from 9:30 am to 11:45 am in the Parish Hall.  They will continue to meet on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays.
We are looking forward to welcoming these moms and their preschoolers into our community.  We are still looking for some childcare workers to take care of the babies, toddlers and older preschoolers while the moms meet.  If you could help with this ministry, or know someone who would like to earn $10/hr for 3 hours (9:00 - noon) twice a month please contact Rev'd Sarah or Cindy Cottrell in the Parish Office: 407 644 5350.
Also, if you know any moms with preschoolers please let them know about this great group.  They can find out more about MOPS International by clicking on the logo in this article, and they can register through the MOPS page on the Good Shepherd website here
