Collect
9 Pentecost

O God, the protector of all who trust in you, without whom nothing is strong, nothing is holy: Increase and multiply upon us your mercy; that, with you as our ruler and guide, we may so pass through things temporal, that we lose not the things eternal; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

"To him who by the power at work within us is able to accomplish abundantly far more than all we can ask or imagine, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations, forever, and ever.  Amen." Ephesians 3:20-21
Dearly Beloved in Christ,

Kneeling humbly before his God in prison Paul prays a beautiful prayer over the Christians in Ephesus (Ephesians 3:14-21), it is an ongoing prayer for the church, for us.

He begins his prayer, as our prayers should always begin, aligned with the purposes of God revealed in his Word. He reminds the Ephesians about the character of God as Father to the whole family of Christians, those in heaven and those on earth. He also reminds them of the inexhaustible resources of God: "the riches of his glory."

And then he begins his petition; that they be strengthened with power through the Holy Spirit in their inner being, and that Christ may dwell in their hearts through faith.

At baptism every Christian has received the indwelling Spirit, but we can tend to relegate the Holy Spirit to a "safe" space in our lives.  Paul's prayer is that we relinquish the throne of our lives to Christ, and as we dig deeply into the rich soil of his love, strengthened by his Holy Spirit we are filled with the fullness of God.  Filled with the fullness of God!

The fullness of God's power at work within us and through us to accomplish "abundantly far more than we can ask or imagine."  How big is your vision?  God's is greater!  And he has the resources and the power to accomplish it.  Let us trust him to do so.

In the Peace, Grace, and Love of our Lord,

Rev'd Sarah+
