Collect
8 Pentecost

Almighty God, the fountain of all wisdom, you know our necessities before we ask and our ignorance in asking: Have compassion on our weakness, and mercifully give us those things which for our unworthiness we dare not, and for our blindness we cannot ask; through the worthiness of your Son Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

"Are you the one to build me a house to live in?" 2 Samuel 7:5
"The Lord will make you a house" 2 Samuel 7:11
Dearly Beloved in Christ,

His battles fought through the might of the Lord, and his kingdom secure, David rests from his labors in his kingly home of cedar in Jerusalem and decides to build a house for the Ark of the Lord.  Until the Lord sends him word through Nathan the prophet: "Are you the one to build me a house to live in?"

On the face of it David's plans seem to be God-honoring, but David has not sought the Lord's will in this and there is a certain presumption in thinking that any human could design a dwelling place for the Lord.  Indeed the Lord reminds David that it is the Lord who has provided for him from the pasture to the palace.  Moreover, he has plans to make David a house, not one made out of bricks and mortar, but a lineage that will last forever, in fact a far greater house than David could ever have imagined building for the Lord.

Through Christ, great David's greater son, we are the fulfillment of that promise - a spiritual house being built on the foundation of the teaching of the apostles and prophets with Christ himself as the cornerstone - a dwelling place for God.

We are not the masons of this house, nor its carpenters.  We are the living stones. The Lord is the master architect, the master builder, the owner and resident.  Thanks be to God that he has chosen to tabernacle in us!

In the Peace, Grace, and Love of our Lord,

Rev'd Sarah+

AURORA - COLORADO

We continue to lift up in prayer all those who are grieving the loss of family and friends in the shooting in Colorado.  We pray for the Lord's healing for the physical and emotional wounds of all concerned.  As we struggle with the why's of this tragedy I would encourage you to read this blog post from a mother who was there.  It is titled "So you still think God is a merciful God?"
