Collect
7 Pentecost

O Lord, mercifully receive the prayers of your people who call upon you, and grant that they may know and understand what things they ought to do, and also may have grace and power faithfully to accomplish them; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

"Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places." Eph. 1:3
Dearly Beloved in Christ,

One imagines Paul's secretary straining to get everything down on the parchments as Paul erupts into glorious praise in one long sentence from verse three to verse fourteen in the first chapter of his letter to the Ephesians.

Barely pausing for breath, Paul lists all the "spiritual blessings" with which we have been blessed: adoption as children of God through Christ; redemption through Christ's blood; forgiveness of sins through the riches of his grace; the knowledge of God's plan to gather up all things in heaven and on earth in Christ; an inheritance in Christ; marked with the seal of the promised Holy Spirit.  Throughout he repeats an exclamation of praise: to the praise of his glory! ... to the praise of his glorious grace! ... to the praise of his glory!

Paul just cannot restrain his exuberant praise because he is personally so very aware of what all of these blessings mean to him, and to those with whom he is so eager to share this good news.  Humanity is dying eternally because of sin, and humanity's attempts to call sin good have not changed that reality - but Christ's sacrifice on the cross has.  On the cross death has been exchanged for eternal life for those who accept that grace.  And Paul is beside himself with joy at the magnitude of the blessing.  Are we?
May we join with Paul in exuberant praise of our God who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing.

In the Peace, Grace, and Love of our Lord,

Rev'd Sarah+
