"The Lord does not see as mortals see, man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart." 1 Samuel 16:7
|
Dearly Beloved in Christ,
This Sunday's Old Testament reading was the familiar story of the anointing of David by Samuel. God had told Samuel that he had chosen one of Jesse's sons to be King of Israel and so Samuel went to Bethlehem and had each of Jesse's seven sons pass in front of him. But none of the seven was the Lord's chosen. Finally, at Samuel's request, Jesse sent for the youngest, the young David, who was out in the fields looking after the sheep. Immediately he came in the Lord spoke to Samuel: "Rise and anoint him; for this is the one" and then we learn that "the Spirit of the Lord came mightily upon David from that day forward."
The same can be said of you - at Baptism you also were anointed by God's Holy Spirit. In Christ we are a new creation and we become the dwelling place of God's Holy Spirit.
Just as David was chosen by God for a specific purpose so also are you. He was chosen to rule over the Kingdom of Israel. Each one of us has been chosen to be part of God's Kingdom work. David was not chosen because of anything external that recommended him, neither are you: "the Lord does not see as mortals see ... the Lord looks at the heart." 1 Samuel 16:7.
David's kingship, his purpose in God's work, was never to be done in his own strength. It was always, and only, to be accomplished by God's indwelling Spirit: "The Spirit of the Lord came mightily upon David." God's purposes for you are likewise accomplished through the indwelling Spirit and the Spirit's gifts that are bestowed on each of us. Perhaps you have a gift of mercy, or intercession, or discernment, or teaching, or leadership, or giving, whatever your gift it has been given for use in God's Kingdom work.
David was anointed as a young lad, but it was not until the Lord had trained him up that he entered fully into the purpose for which the Lord chose him. This is so often true for us also. Sometimes it seems like God's training season is much longer than we would choose for ourselves. But the Lord's timing is always perfect. And during the training season we are also accomplishing his purpose. Do you think you are too young, or too old, that your golden era has come and gone? Remember, "the Lord does not see as mortals see, they look on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart."
In our own eyes our participation in God's Kingdom work might seem infinitesimally small and insignificant, but it is our obedience in using the gifts that the Spirit has given us, where he has planted us, according to his purpose, that provides for his kingdom to grow from the smallest of all seeds into a tree in which birds can make their nest. May we be a people who faithfully respond to his call to kingdom work by using the gifts he has given us through the anointing of His Spirit.
In the Peace, Grace, and Love of our Lord, Rev'd Sarah+ |

We are transitioning the MOPS group that has been meeting on the All Saints campus to Good Shepherd. The wonderful MOPS Steering Team will meet on Saturday, June 23 at Good Shepherd to plan out the year's activities.
The MOPS International purpose statement reads as follows:
MOPS International exists to encourage, equip and develop every mother of preschoolers to realize her potential as a woman, mother and leader in the name of Jesus Christ.
The MOPS moms will be meeting twice a month on Tuesday mornings beginning September 11 from 9:45 to 11:45. There will be devotions, speakers, crafts, discussion time, and fellowship while their preschoolers are cared for elsewhere on the campus. They are also excited about joining in with some of our fellowship and fundraising events. If you know any mothers of preschoolers please invite them to come and join the group.
Here is where we NEED YOUR HELP! While the moms are meeting their Moppets will need to be cared for. We will have a babies room (the Bride's Room), a younger toddler room and an older preschooler room (the Sunday School workroom and nursery). We will need at least 2 adults in each room to look after the babies and children. Would you be willing to rock, play with, read to, and help make crafts with these children either once or twice a month? If so please email me or call me at the Parish Office.

"Cry Room"
We have been working on converting one of the narthex rooms in the church into a "cry room." It should be fully operational by August. Thanks to some very kind donors we have received a rocking chair, camera, screen and free installation of a CCTV system so that mothers who need to comfort, change, or feed their babies during the service can do so and still stay connected with what is going on in church. This room will be dedicated to mothers (or dads) with babies and/or toddlers.
Does anyone have a changing table they could donate for the room?

Join us for our July 4th Parish Party on July 1st. Let us know your connections to other States (if you didn't fill out a questionnaire during the service please call us and let us know by calling the parish office.) Join us after the 10:30 am service on July 1st for Hot Dogs, beans, slaw, and watermelon - a great 4th celebration!

Fellowship Under the Word
Our two fellowship/Bible study groups are well under way, and growing. I have heard from so many how much they are enjoying the fellowship and the ease of conversation prompted by the study guide questions.
If you have been thinking about joining one or the other group and have hesitated for whatever reason I urge you to drop in and see for yourself. Wednesday evenings at the Lassiter's at 6:30 pm (men and women); Thursday evenings at Sue Burley's at 7:00 pm (women).
