Almighty and everliving God, in your tender love for the human race you sent your Son our Savior Jesus Christ to take upon him our nature, and to suffer death upon the cross, giving us an example of his great humility. Collect for Palm Sunday

Dearly Beloved in Christ,
Human nature and humility are not automatic corollaries. Human nature and pride, or a need to puff oneself up, to be well thought of, these are truer corollaries. Those who are humble amongst us are the exception to the norm. And yet it appears that humility and divinity are very close corollaries. To be God is to be humble! Jesus shows us the true character and being of God, and according to Saint Paul in his letter to the Philippians (2:5-11) that character is one of deep humility.
A humility described in radical descent: from pre-existent divine glory, to a self-emptying into human flesh, not just any human, but the servant of all, joined so intimately to the frailty of the human condition that he deigned to die, and not just any death, but the most excruciating, the most public, the most atrocious of any execution devised by man.
None of this was forced on Jesus - in his humility he chose this way, the way of the cross: "'And I, when I am lifted up will draw all people to myself.' He said this to indicate the kind of death he was to die." (John 12:33) Crucifixion did not take Jesus by surprise - he knew this was the death that awaited him in Jerusalem, and he set his face towards that city anyway.
Why? Why does the maker of the universe, the one who flung the starts in the sky, who created the oceans and all that lives in them, the one who knows no beginning and no end, why did he relinquish that which was his by right? Why did he choose to become powerless and join himself to his creation, to die, even death on a cross? Because ... "with his stripes we are healed." "He has born our griefs and carried our sorrows ... he was wounded for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him is the chastisement that brought us peace." (Is. 52) Because he would go to ANY end to bring us back to him - and he did.
During this most holy week of the year I pray that we may meditate deeply on the way of Christ; the way of humility, the way of the cross. I pray for the grace of God for each of us to be close to Christ this week, walking with him the Via Dolorosa, the Way of Sorrows, and in doing so that we may touch the mystery of his deep love for each of us.

MAUNDY THURSDAY ALL NIGHT WATCHThere is a sign up for the Maundy Thursday All Night Watch - this is our response to the Lord's question: "Will you wait with me one hour?" The All Night Watch takes place in the Chapel this year - it begins after the end of the Maundy Thursday service and continues until the Reserved Sacrament is brought back into the Church for the noonday service on Good Friday. There are still some opening for the All Night Watch. Please call Terri in the Church Office if you would like to add your name.

Please welcome The Reverend Dr. Leander (Lee) Ecola
and his beautiful wife Janet
Father Lee comes to us as an answer to prayer! He is a retired priest in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, a church in full communion with The Episcopal Church. He has been ministering in the Diocese of Central Florida for the last eleven years. Most recently he was the Priest-in-Charge at St Mary of the Angels while that church was going through a search process. Father Lee will be with us as a Retired Associate, and will be assisting me with the sacramental, homiletical, and pastoral ministry. We are so very thankful that Father Lee and Janet have chosen to make their church home with us.
