 2 Epiphany

Almighty God, whose Son our Savior Jesus Christ is the light of the world: Grant that your people, illumined by your Word and Sacraments, may shine with the radiance of Christ's glory, that he may be known, worshipped, and obeyed to the ends of the earth; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who with you and the Holy Spirit lives and reigns, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

Revealing Christ's Love

Caring for the sheep.  Searching for the lost.

Lord, you have searched me out and known me ...
You trace my journeys and my resting places ...
You yourself created my inmost parts ...
Psalm 139

Dearly Beloved in Christ,

Before flesh and blood conceived you the Lord knew you - he himself knit you together in your mother's womb.  And because you bear the mark of your Creator you are of ultimate value to him.  A twenty dollar bill still has the same value whether or not it has been crumpled up, stomped on, dirtied up, or put through the wash cycle and dryer because it was minted by the US Treasury and does not lose its value.

Of how much more value are you, who bear the image of God himself who made you?  You too might have been roughed up, dirtied up, and put through the wringer - your value has not changed in the Lord's eyes.  He counts you of such enormous value that God the Son gave up all and died on a cross so that he could be with you always.

I pray that you may rest back in this knowledge, that it may fill your heart and your mind: you were created by God in love, you were redeemed by God in love, he is acquainted with all your ways, he knows your thoughts before they are fully formed, his hand is upon you, and his love for you never ends.

In the Peace, Grace, and Love of our Lord,

Rev'd Sarah+

Remembering Martin Luther King, Jr. - January 16
The following was shared by my friend Father Jon Davis.  I include it here for the timeliness of its message:
"We have bowed before the god of money only to learn that there are such things as love and friendship that money cannot buy and that in a world of possible depressions, stock market crashes, and bad business investments, money is a rather uncertain deity. These transitory gods are not able to save and bring happiness to the human heart. Only God is able."
  Martin Luther King Jr.

Pledge Envelopes
If you have filled out a pledge card this year your pledge envelopes have arrived.  You can pick them up in the Church and Chapel narthex.  We received 16 new pledge cards this year, thanks be to God!  However several of our long time pledgers have not yet filled out a pledge card.  Just a friendly reminder that the Parish Administrator needs a completed pledge card each year in order to enter your pledge into the system and issue you with pledge envelopes.  Pledge cards are also available in the Church and Chapel narthex or in the Parish Office.

Epiphany House Blessings
The Epiphany Season is a perfect time to schedule a House Blessing if you have not had one.  There is a beautiful liturgy that is used from the Episcopal Book of Occasional Services.  We walk through the house cleansing each room with Holy Water and praying in the light of Christ, and conclude with a home Eucharist.  If you would like to schedule a House Blessing please email Rev'd Sarah here.  The most convenient times are on Thursday afternoons or early evenings.

Magnify the Living Lord
Volume II
Joy Sutton is collecting personal accounts for the second volume of Magnify the Living Lord.  She hopes to have all your stories in by the end of February and to work on the editing during the month of March.  If you have any personal stories for us to consider for inclusion please email Joy here

If you are unfamiliar with Magnify the Living Lord you can access the email archives on the website here
You will need to scroll down through the most recent Monday emails to the ones titled Magnify the Living Lord.

 CRAFT FAIR?
A few people have been discussing the possibility of having a craft fair on the campus on April 15 (the weekend after Easter and the same weekend as the Spring Maitland Arts Festival) as a fundraiser.  As you will note from the budget we do not have enough in pledge and plate income to cover all our expenditures and need to find other creative means to sustain the ministries at Good Shepherd.  If you are interested in participating in the planning and/or having a booth please email Rev'd Sarah here
