 The Holy Name

Eternal Father, you gave to your incarnate Son the holy name of Jesus to be the sign of our salvation: Plant in every heart, we pray, the love of him who is the Savior of the world, our Lord Jesus Christ; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, in glory everlasting. Amen.

Dearly Beloved in Christ,

Below is one of my favorite poems, especially at this time of the year.  It was on a sampler that my mother made many years ago,  that now hangs in my house.  A reminder that however dark it appears, however uncertain, or even however certain we might be of a path, the surest and the safest way is to step out into the darkness trusting that the God who is light sees light where we might see darkness, knows the safest way, which might be a different one than the one we feel so sure of.

And I said to the man who stood at the gate of the year:
"Give me a light that I may tread safely into the unknown."
And he replied:
"Go out into the darkness and put your hand into the Hand of God.
That shall be to you better than light and safer than a known way."

This is from the poem "God Knows" by Minnie Louise Haskins and quoted by King George VI in his Christmas address to the country in 1939 as World War II loomed.

May we all step out into this New Year with our hand in God's hand trusting completely in Him to lead us on His perfect path for our lives.

In the Peace, Grace, and Love of our Lord,

Rev'd Sarah+

Welcome to All

who may have an interest in joining others at Good Shepherd in our MINISTRY of FACILITATING OUR LORD'S HEALING at the meeting January 8, 2012, in the library after the 10:30 a.m. service.

This ministry has been effective and is growing as is evidenced by an active Combined Prayer Ministry (CPM) study group, prayer teams at all 1030 services over the past year, formation of the Good Shepherd Chapter of Central Florida of The International  Order of St. Luke the Physician (OSL), and the induction of members in The International Order of St. Luke the Physician (OSL) at the 1030 service on 11Dec

 OSL Chapter Certificate

The meeting on January 8 is YOUR opportunity to EXPLORE participation in this MINISTRY: EITHER by learning more about intercessory prayer for those on our intercession list, or others, in a study of His Word and commentaries in the CPM group,* OR in a more directed study by membership in OSL.* (Anyone in the CPM group may audit an OSL meeting of Associate Members at any time. )

*The meeting time and schedule of meetings for each group will be determined by the membership of that group.

 Vestry Nominations
At the Annual Parish Meeting on Sunday, January 22nd, after the 10:30 am service, we will elect 5 members to the vestry (3 to a 3-yr term and 2 to a 2-yr term).  The Rector and Treasurer are currently compiling a list of eligible people according to the parish by-laws (article V, Section 3): "The Rector and Treasurer shall establish a list of possible candidates who are eligible in accordance with Canon XVII, Sections 2 and 3 of Canons of the Diocese of Central Florida, as amended Jan. 20, 2000."
For more information on National and Diocesan Canons on Vestries, and information on vestry responsibilities taken from publications sponsored by The Episcopal Church click here.
Annual Parish Meeting Report
We are beginning to work on the Annual Parish Report and need reports from the parish leadership, ministries, committees, and commissions.
Please get your reports in to the Parish Secretary (click here for her email) by the end of the year so that we can edit and print the report in time for the Annual Parish Meeting.  Thanks for your cooperation!
