 Christmas

Almighty God, you have given your only-begotten Son to take our nature upon him, and to be born of a pure virgin: Grant that we, who have been born again and made your children by adoption and grace, may daily be renewed by your Holy Spirit; through our Lord Jesus Christ, to whom with you and the same Spirit be honor and glory, now and for ever. Amen.

Dearly Beloved in Christ,

A wise friend reminded me last week that we cannot know how to give until we truly learn how to receive.  Those who are homeless and destitute have learned how to receive.  They have nothing to give in return.

This is how we approach the manger, as beggars with nothing in our pockets.  We are invited to come into the stable, not because we have anything to offer, but because we have everything to receive.  Like homeless waifs telling each other "listen, we've found a safe place, shelter, nourishment, come and see."  And we come and find a baby in strips of cloth lying in an animal feed trough, the rough wood of the manger on his back, a shadow of the rough wood that thirty-three years later would press against his adult back.  This is the gift without price - the gift that cannot be reciprocated - the gift that we must simply receive.

And the miracle is that here, in our paucity, in our poverty, with nothing to give this child, here in our homelessness, we find home.  Here, we find complete safety.  Here, we find all the nourishment we will ever need.  And here we find unending, unfathomable, unchanging love.

Let us rejoice again in the gift that has been given which we are simply invited to come to the manger to receive.

In the Peace, Grace, and Love of our Lord,

Rev'd Sarah+

We are beginning to work on the Annual Parish Report and need reports from the parish leadership, ministries, committees, and commissions.
Please get your reports in to the Parish Secretary (click here for her email) by the end of the year so that we can edit and print the report in time for the Annual Parish Meeting.  Thanks for your cooperation!
