What is the wedding robe required to remain in the King's presence at the wedding feast he has prepared for his Son?
Matthew 22:1-14

Dearly Beloved in Christ,

Sunday's parable of the Wedding Feast is the third and last of the parables that Jesus tells to the Chief Priests and elders in response to their question: "who gave you this authority?" (Matt 21:23)  If his primary audience is unsure at the beginning of the story as to the identity of the original invitees to the wedding feast, they are in no doubt by the end that Jesus is referring to them.  From the writings of the Prophet Isaiah first century Jews would have been well versed in the expected messianic banquet: the gracious provision for the nation, the return of all the dispersed Jews, and the overthrow of their enemies.

The original invitees (the Jews, Chief Priests and elders) have not only ignored the King's invitation to the feast, preferring instead to focus solely on their day to day activities, but have even gone so far as to murder his servants (the prophets.)  Since the King (God) has already prepared the feast for his Son (Jesus) he opens up the invitation to all, good and bad.  All those outside of Israel are now invited to participate in the feast.  This is not a closed invitation it is open to all.

But there is a required dress code.  Of all of those massed in the wedding hall there is one who is not clothed appropriately.  What are the appropriate wedding garments to remain in the King's presence?    Paul says to the Galatians: "as many of you as were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ." To the Corinthians: "the perishable must clothe itself with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality," and to the church in Rome: "put on the Lord Jesus Christ."  Neither goodness nor badness was to be taken into consideration by the servants who extended the invitation - only the garment of Christ's righteousness.

May we be ready to join the King's servants in the highways and byways with the King's invitation to all to come to the feast, and reveal to them the only necessary requirement - the wedding garment of Christ.

In the Peace, Grace, and Love of our Lord,

Rev'd Sarah+

Workday

No, you won't be required to climb a tall ladder with a saw in your hand, and no, you won't be required to climb on a roof with a rake, and no, you won't be asked to operate a piece of heavy machinery - unless you are skilled in any of these things and want to!

But you will find that you have fun with your Good Shepherd family!  Come and join us on our WORKDAY next Saturday, October 15 starting at 8:00 am - or when you can get there - until when you need to leave!

Bring clippers, gloves, rakes, black lawn clipping bags, window cleaning gear, etc ...

FOOD BANK UPDATE

We have received a very generous gift of $1250 from the Winter Park Health Foundation for our Food Bank ministry.  This will be of great help in covering the expenses for our Thanksgiving boxed lunches.

However, the Food Bank is currently in need of supplies for the day to day boxes that are given away.  Supplies at Second Harvest where we bulk-purchase food have been very light recently, and our shelves are getting bare.  Any foodstuffs would be greatly appreciated: cereal, mac n cheese, canned goods, peanut butter, bread, etc.  We have baskets in the narthex of both chapel and church - please place any supplies you can donate into these baskets on Sundays or bring them by the church office during normal hours (currently 9:00 to 2:30)  Thank you, as always, for your amazing support of this needed ministry - now more than ever.

A Prayer for discernment in the call of the next bishop: Be with us and guide us, Holy Spirit, as we seek your will for the future of our diocese. Help us to discern the needs and hopes of your people in Central Florida, so that our search for a Bishop may proceed with clear vision and joyful obedience.  In the Name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.  Amen.
