Collect

14 Pentecost

Grant us, Lord, not to be anxious about earthly things, but to love things heavenly; and even now, while we are placed among things that are passing away, to hold fast to those that shall endure; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

"I choose to give to this last worker as I give to you.  Am I not allowed to do what I choose with what belongs to me?" Matthew 20:14-15

Dearly Beloved in Christ,

We have grown up, from the time we were little, with the idea that "fairness" required a reward commensurate with the effort expended.  As we grew older, the more chores we accomplished the greater the allowance.  We never expected our younger siblings to receive as much as we did when they did less work than we did, and we carried this operating paradigm into adult life.

We have unconscious tapes running that are continuously comparing ourselves to others, and to the amount of effort and skill that they exhibit compared to us.  It is why we find it so very difficult to accept God's grace that is so freely given.  Like the rich young man we have come to expect that we must do something to receive something: "Teacher, what good deed must I do to have eternal life?" (Matt 19:16)

Beloved, there is nothing we can do!  It is a gift freely given, that is what is so amazing about grace, all we need to do is receive it.  And here is the other truth about God's grace revealed in Sunday's parable of the Laborers in the Vineyard - it doesn't matter when you accept the gift - the reward is the same.

Whether you began work in the Lord's Kingdom vineyard in the early morning, at noon day, or at the close of the day the reward is equal: "Come, blessed of my Father, take your inheritance, the Kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world." (Matt 25:34)

We come as paupers, with nothing to offer, nothing to earn us anything and yet the Landowner in his great love gives us riches beyond measure.  There is nothing that we can do that will increase his grace and love to us, nothing we can do that will decrease his grace and love to us.  It is firmly fixed, immovable.  May we let go of the constant need to compare ourselves with others in order to get a sense of our worth, may we look only to the one who believes we are of inestimable worth.

In the Peace, Grace, and Love of our Lord,
Rev'd Sarah+

Diocesan ShieldThe Standing Committee has released the names of the nominees to be the Fourth Bishop of Central Florida.

The Nominees' names, biographical information, responses to questions, video greetings and more are available at the Bishop Search website: Bishop Search

In preparation for the election of the Fourth Bishop of Central Florida Dr. Jim Louttit has been teaching a class on the historical episcopate.  In the next couple of weeks he will be looking at the episcopate in American before and after the American Revolution.

On October 9 we will begin a forum series to get to know these nominees.  We will gather in Roberta's Hall at 9:30 am and will see the videos of the nominees, discuss their resumes and answers to the questions that are posted on the Bishop Search website.  If there are questions that anyone would like to ask the nominees these can be posted in an open forum blog on the website.

In the picture on the far right you can see a small children's altar - Dari has asked if anyone might feel like sewing some altar cloths: a fair linen and perhaps some super-frontals in seasonal colors (green, red, white, purple).  A super-frontal is a cloth that falls down about 6" from the top of the altar.  If anyone is interested please call Dari for dimensions 407-492-2115

NEW DOORS!!!! YEAH!

The five new doors have been installed - and they look wonderful - thank you so much to all those who contributed.  We have quite a few more to go, but this is such a wonderful start!
