| This Week's Collect The Second Sunday in Lent
|
| |
O God, whose glory it is always to have mercy: Be gracious to all who have gone astray from your ways, and bring them again with penitent hearts and steadfast faith to embrace and hold fast the unchangeable truth of your Word, Jesus Christ your Son; who with you and the Holy Spirit lives and reigns, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

"I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you, and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing .... in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed." Genesis 12:2, 3b
|
|
Dearly Beloved in Christ, The setting apart of Abraham and his seed is so that through him all the peoples of the earth shall be blessed. Where the nation of Israel failed in its mission to the nations, the Israel of One, the Holy seed, Jesus the Christ, came to fulfill God's rescue mission to all the people's of the earth.
As Christopher Wright has pointed out in his book Knowing Jesus through the Old Testament the first eleven chapters of Genesis pose the question to which the rest of the Bible, from Genesis 12 on, is the answer. The mission of God to save his creation began with the calling of Abraham and narrows to the seed of Abraham, nailed to a cross on a stony hill outside a city wall.
"God loved the world in this way: he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life. Indeed, God did not send the Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him." John 3:16-17
"For the promise that he [Abraham] would inherit the world did not come to Abraham through the law but through the righteousness of faith ... for this reason it depends on faith, in order that the promise may rest on grace and be guaranteed to all his descendants, not only to the adherents of the law but also to those who share the faith of Abraham (for he is the father of all of us)" Romans 4:13, 16
"If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham's offspring, heirs according to the promise." Galatians 3:29
In Christ we are Abraham's offspring, born of the Spirit, and as such we are to share in God's great mission to bless all the people's of the earth. We are to share with them the greatest rescue story ever told. May we be faithful stewards of that mission.
In His Peace, Grace, and Love, Rev'd Sarah+

Good Shepherd to host the unveiling of the first earthquake and hurricane resistant Emergency Relief Shelter

by World Housing Solution, a ministry of Kevin Schweizer
Friday through Sunday, March 25 - 27
Hello friends and family
Please find attached an invitation to a very special project that I believe will help to liberate the Haitian people in many ways. First to be free from living in subhuman conditions in tattered tents and makeshift homes filled with disease and vermin. Second, to employ over 900 Haitians in Haiti to manufacture and build homes for the masses and ultimately provide an industry to bring economic stability to Haiti through exporting a unique panelized building material throughout the Caribbean and Central America.
Please come and be part of the vision to help many that are so in need of a chance for a better life. Come help us build to heal.
Thanks,
Kevin Schweizer, Architect
(son of Nils Schweizer, architect of the Church of the Good Shepherd)

MAITLAND ARTS FESTIVAL
APRIL 15, 16, and 17
We will once again open our car park for free parking and we will give away free water. We will have tours of our historic chapel. We will offer an inexpensive lunch menu. The cooking will be done on outside grills and tables set up under canopies by the Lake Lilly walk through. This is a wonderful opportunity to greet the community, to show them our wonderful Good Shepherd hospitality, and extend an invitation to participate in our Palm Sunday services if they don't have a church home! We need "all hands on deck!" If you could help for 1/2 hour or an hour either with giving away the bottles or "manning" the parking lot entrance, directing people where to go, or being a "docent" for the chapel tours please contact either Susan van Bernum, who is chairing this committee, or Jim and Dianna Bivins who co-chair the Newcomers/Evangelism Commission. Canopies are needed - if you have one that you could lend us please contact either Susan or Jim or Dianna. Thank you! |
