There is joy and blessedness in being permitted to witness in an age of doubt and unbelief to that precious faith committed unto us.
The Rt Rev'd H.B. Whipple, Founder of The Church of the Good Shepherd, Maitland, Florida, 1881

"Immensity cloistered in thy dear womb"
John Donne
Carina

"NASA's Hubble Space Telescope image captures the chaotic activity atop a three-light-year-tall pillar of gas and dust that is being eaten away by the brilliant light from nearby bright stars. The pillar is also being assaulted from within, as infant stars buried inside it fire off jets of gas that can be seen streaming from towering peaks. This turbulent cosmic pinnacle lies within a tempestuous stellar nursery called the Carina Nebula, located 7,500 light-years away in the southern constellation Carina. The image celebrates the 20th anniversary of Hubble's launch and deployment into an orbit around Earth. Hubble was launched April 24, 1990"  The Daily Telegraph

Dearly Beloved in Christ,

As I looked through the "Pictures of the year 2010: Space" on The Telegraph website (link above) John Donne's statement: "immensity cloistered in thy dear womb" took on new meaning.  Here in pictures is the immensity of creation: other galaxies, nebula, and the birth of stars - all spoken into being by the One who shrank down to an ovum in a virgin's womb for one reason alone - his love for us.

The Word that was with God, and was God, and through whom all things were made became flesh and dwelt amongst us (John 1:1-18)  Truly "immensity cloistered" in a virgin's womb. Who can fathom the depth of sacrifice of this descent?  He took off glory, he humbled himself and became like us in every way, except for sin.  He became human and therefore mortal.  And being human he experienced everything that we experience - and overcame all that we fear so that he could speak peace into our hearts.

Is it any wonder that the angels who witnessed this descent, this guerrilla action into Enemy territory, broke out into songs of praise "Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace among those whom he favors." May we continue to join with them in songs of glorious praise.

In His Peace, Grace, and Love,
Rev'd Sarah+

MANY THANKS
To all those who made our Christmas Eve and Christmas Day services so very special: the office staff and volunteers who worked to get the bulletins prepared and collated, the flower guild and all those who helped to decorate the church and chapel, the altar guild, acolytes, lay ministers, lectors, and ushers who had to do double duty, those who helped rehearse and who participated in the children's pageant, Eric and Keith for manning the sound board, Patty who spent countless hours recording and practicing with the choir, and all those wonderful voices, those at the 5:00 pm and the midnight mass, many of whom went the extra mile to get out there for the late service after an already long day.  Thank you!

Beyond Coincidence: God's Presence in Our Lives
So many of you have shared times when you have experienced God's hand in your life.  It is such an encouragement on our faith journeys to be reminded that our God is a God "with us" - "Emmanuel" - not just 2,000 years ago born into a lowly stable, but with us still, both in the small details of lives and in the sometimes seemingly overwhelming events in our lives.  He does not remove his hand from us.

Joy Sutton has suggested that we put these experiences into print form so that they might stand as a written testament to the ongoing power and presence of our Lord.  Joy has written an explanatory letter that you can access here.  Please contact Joy at jsutton308@earthlink.net or by phone at 407-830-5258 for more information.
