Know Your Farmer, Local Motion, Boardman Watershed Prosperity Plan, Energy Information Series, Disc Golf, the Good Food Web, and the Depot Neighborhood Affordable Housing Project. These are just a few of the hundreds of projects that have cited alignment with The Grand Vision's citizen-defined Guiding Principles. Next Steps: The Grand Vision is a "big idea." It's a picture of our ideal future. So how do we get there? The next step in the process is to create a blueprint for action - a set of specific strategies for making the vision a reality.

Work has already begun on an in-depth analysis of county assets and needs related to The Grand Vision's citizen-defined principles. The project -- funded through a HUD Sustainable Communities grant -- will involve an information and engagement process within each county designed to incorporate local input into regional plans for transportation, land use, housing, and energy. These regional plans will be available for communities to use when developing local solutions.

Grand Vision Receives Grant from

National Association of Realtors

National Assoc. Realtors The National Association of REALTORS (NAR) is supporting The Grand Vision with a $15,000 Smart Growth grant. The grant is allowing The Grand Vision to access local businesses for services and products to host The Grand Vision Community Action Updates 2012: Connecting Communities to $10 million and Counting.

NAR Smart Growth Program Advisory Group Chair Bob Caldwell says Michigan is working hard to reignite its economic engine and The Grand Vision is exactly the kind of Smart Growth project the grant program was designed to support. "Through these grants, REALTORS are helping to make communities stronger through better planning, citizen involvement and leadership," said Caldwell.

Grand Vision Spokesman Kim Pontius says the awarding of the Smart Growth Grant put the Grand Traverse region on the NAR's radar screen. "Since then we have seen a great deal of interest from NAR in some of the land use and transportation solutions our region is developing through The Grand Vision. The acknowledgement of our efforts through the award of this very competitive NAR grant process is an honor indeed for our regional community."
