Director's Notes | |
The 2010 season of C.A.S.T. events is nearly half over and so far,
what a year it's been. From a rain soaked event at Lake Belton, Texas to the
Bad Lands of South Dakota, our coordinators efforts to provide a day of fun and fishing for
the kids has left smiles for years to come. There are still a few event coordinators
waiting to set their event dates due to past weather problems but for now, 57
events have been scheduled and the Special Thrills keep coming!
Don't forget to share the good times with everyone by
sending Ashley your event pictures and stories, Email Ashley.
Remember what they
say, "it aint braggin if you can do it" and my friends, you are all definitely
getting it done. I send you all my best and if I can help you with anything,
please feel free to contact me. -Art Pasley C.A.S.T National Program Director

C.A.S.T. Takes Part in National Fishing & Boating Week Festivities in Washington, DC
Over
100 C.A.S.T. participants dropped their lines in the Constitution
Gardens Pond for a day of fishing on the National Mall at a C.A.S.T.
event held in conjunction with nationwide 2010 National Fishing and
Boating Week festivities. With the help of numerous volunteers, youths
from the Sharp Health School in Washington, DC fished for a variety of
species of fish.
"Helping children learn the joys of fishing and being
at home in the great outdoors is one of the centerpieces of Secretary
Salazar's 'America's Great Outdoors' initiative to support
community-level efforts to reconnect Americans, especially children, to
the outdoors," said Service Deputy Director Dan Ashe.
Partners for this event include
the Department of Interior, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, National
Park Service, Bureau of Land Management, Bureau of Reclamation,
Recreational Boating and Fishing Foundation, National Oceanic and
Atmospheric Administration, U.S. Forest Service, U.S. Army Corps of
Engineers, District Department of the Environment, Trout Unlimited, Blacks in
Government, Future Fisherman Foundation, American Sportfishing
Association and American Recreation Coalition.

C.A.S.T. Partners with TIPS for Summer 2010
C.A.S.T. welcomes Ahbra Franco, an incoming
Senior at Mercer Island High School, as an intern through the Teens In Public Service (TIPS) Program for the summer of 2010. TIPS is
a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that offers youth, aged 15-19, rewarding and
life changing work in the form of paid community service internships in the
greater Seattle area. This
is our second summer partnership with TIPS and we couldn't be more pleased with
the positive outcomes the program provides. Although initially unfamiliar with our
foundation, Ahbra has previously worked with our demographic through the Best
Friends Club, Friendship Circle and as T.A. at her school. When asked about her goals with C.A.S.T. this
summer she stated, "I am so excited to be working with CAST. One of my main goals that I hope to
accomplish while working with CAST is to really spread awareness about this
foundation and make it more well known." |
