Maddie's Corner
Recently, a "close, personal friend of mine"
(wink-wink!) had a near-death experience. Rhett
came down with a sudden, very serious illness which caused massive
vomiting.
Rhett CopeHis mom rushed him to the
doctor, who was
perplexed as to the cause of Rhett's
problem.After numerous tests, the doctor
asked mom if she had changed his diet lately.
She said that she hadn't changed his food, but had recently switched
brands of a fish oil supplement (Omega 3) last month. It was a very popular brand made for people. Upon examining the label, the doctor noted
that black current was one of the ingredients.
Currents are a form of raisins, which are known to be toxic
to dogs, and can cause renal failure.
In Rhett's case, he was extremely allergic to raisins, which made his case even worse. Fortunately, the doctor was able to save Rhett and he won't have any
lingering affects. Thank Goodness!
This is a sobering reminder to check labels of products made for people, before you give them to us doggies!
