Kids clothing and toy swaps
I've written in the past about
used clothes (or as my mother used to correct me in the past,
calling them "pre-loved fashions") and their connection to green
living.
If you have children, no doubt you would know just how fast they grow
out of their gear - then its back to the store to buy more and you're
stuck with a pile of clothing you don't need. You can always give those
items away of course, but what if you could get good quality clothing
for free by swapping what you have?
Meg, the founder of Peace. Love. Swap, recently wrote to me about a great idea she's set in motion.
The group runs ongoing "Kid's Swaps", where moms get together with other
moms to recycle (exchange) their kid's stuff (ages 0-14 and
maternity).
After the swaps, the groups donates the majority of leftover items to
local charities that benefit families in need.
Meg says they already provide this event for moms in several areas of
Northern California and there's been a ton of interest.
Meg hates how out of control consumption has become and wants to see
more people trading & using
second-hand stuff. Meg believes moms want and need an event like this
close to home, and it's her goal to try and help them get one started
wherever they live.
How do the swaps work? Bring all your clean, gently used items that you
want to get rid of. It's not confined to clothes either; you can bring
toys, movies, strollers, highchairs, bouncy seats and much
more. While you're at the swaps, you can take what you want from other
moms who have brought stuff along.
It's that simple - no tagging or pricing your stuff and no registration
forms. There's just a $5 fee to attend that goes towards the running of
the swap.
At Tidy Tushees, we loved this idea so much that we're planning a Kids Clothing (diapers) and Toy Swap in June - watch your inbox and our Facebook Fan Page for details!

POCKET TOTS & EASY FITS

Fast, effective absorption and residue-resistant fabrics are the key
elements that set this diaper apart. The interior lining is a soft
brushed polyester knit that wicks moisture away from baby's tender skin
without repelling liquid. Easy to clean, this fabric is much less likely
to cause problems with absorption.
The removable liner has one
layer of rayon from bamboo fibre plus two layers of polyester
microfiber. Bamboo absorbs 70% faster than cotton and the microfiber
layers hold lots of liquid. The combination of these absorptive fabrics
is a pocket diaper liner with optimal performance.
Our testers
LOVED the fit of this one-size diaper, and particularly liked the
generously sized, super sticky and durable velcro. Well placed fold-back
laundry tabs are easy to use and will make laundering that much easier!
The
waterproof outer fabric of the Pocket Tot is a soft and durable
laminated polyester. It is available in 5 really fun colours and white,
and the dyes are Oeko-tex certified!
All Tots Bots products are
manufactured in their own factory in Glasgow, Scotland from
environmentally friendly fabrics. The rayon from bamboo fibres is
Oeko-tex certified and the bamboo fibre is produced in a "closed loop"
system which recycles water and chemical output to ensure
sustainability. We really enjoy working with this company! You can be
confident that the products they manufacture are ethically as well as
sustainably produced.

Our Healthy Nutritional Product To Help Kids Eat A Rainbow!
Sometimes it can be challenging to get children to eat their fruits
and vegetables - especially the 5 or more servings a day that is
recommended. This chart provides a tangible and fun way for children
to track their intake of fruits and vegetables. Fruits and vegetables
contain vitamins, minerals and powerful phytonutrients.
Many phytonutrients give fruit and vegetables their bright colour...
the brighter the better! Our chart is made up of these major colour
groups: Red, Orange, Yellow, Green and Blue-Purple. The different
bright colours signify the different phytonutrients that each fruit or
vegetable contains, therefore we use the Rainbow colours as a guide to
getting a wide range of phytonutrients and nutrients in your children's
diet. Young children don't need to know what specific nutrients each
fruit or vegetable features: this chart makes it really easy for them -
they just need to Eat a Rainbow
every day!
