HOW CAN I TAKE CARE OF MYSELF?

A FEW SUGGESTIONS
· Take one step at a time. Make a point to eat properly and engage in a simple form of exercise on a regular basis.
· Somewhere, during each day, you deserve at least one break from mothering. Do something for yourself. Make a point of it and schedule the time if necessary. This should be something that you like to do, not something that you think you should do or that you need to do.
· Avoid getting over-tired. Sleep appears to be a key factor in postpartum depression. Look at your day and plan times when you can rest. If possible, nap when your baby naps. Enlist the help from family or friends who are willing to look after the baby while you get some rest or while you take some time to yourself.
· Make a game plan with your partner and family. Define shared responsibilities and arrange a schedule for taking care of the baby so that you do not have to run every time the baby cries or needs tending.
· Arrange for babysitters. Recruit your partner, friends and relatives. Then take a walk, go for lunch, do some shopping, or just go and have some fun.
· Develop a support system for yourself. People in your support system can be a resource for practical information or assistance--or they can be there just to listen. Try looking for support in places such as women's centers, mother's groups, family places, babysitting co-ops, and so forth. Look at family, friends and relatives. Join a postpartum support group in your area.

Breakfast Cookies
Ingredients:
3/4 c sugar
1/4 c canola oil (I subbed butter)
3/4 c peanut butter (might try crunchy next time)
1/4 c water
1 tsp vanilla extract
2 large eggs
1 1/2 cups flour (I used 1c ww and the rest white)
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1 1/2 cups old-fashioned or quick-cooking oats
1/2 c raisins
3 c cheerios (we used multi-grain kind)
I think you could sub lots of other things like nuts, coconut, cranberries, etc.

Directions:
Preheat oven to 375. Beat sugar, oil, peanut butter, water, vanilla and egg until well combined. Stir in flour, baking soda, oats and raisins. Mix well then gently fold in cheerios. Drop dough by 1/4 cupfuls onto cookie sheet-flatten slightly with spoon. Bake cookies 13 to 15 minutes. Recipe says it can be stored in airtight container or zip bag for up to 2 months (umm, don't think they'll last that long around here!)
