Greetings!

There is something magical about the power of partnership. Science has identified the phenomenon as
synergy, which basically means that two or more things working together are greater than the sum of their individual parts. Those of you building businesses know firsthand about the synergistic qualities of teamwork.

I think the first time I learned about it was when I was young and heard a proverb in church which went something like,

"Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their work: If one falls down, his friend can help him up. But pity the man who falls and has no one to help him up! Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm. But how can one keep warm alone? Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken."

We would all do well to remember these words of wisdom if we hope to succeed in business. But to me, partnership is most beautiful when it is applied to solving the problems and meeting the needs of mankind.  I guess that is one of the reasons why I love Network of Caring.

I have been thinking that while NOC is technically a charity, in a very real sense we are more of a foundation of partnership. Sure we help the disadvantaged...but our secret sauce is inspiring people to work together using their resources, their resourcefulness, and their relationships. Our partners have 3 ways they help Network of Caring solve the problems and meet the needs of mankind:
  1. They can give (Resources)
  2. They can think of creative of ways to support NOC (Resourcefulness)
  3. They can connect with others who could assist NOC (Relationships)
The giving, thinking, and connecting done by our partners this past year has been the reason why NOC has had another incredible year in 2011...and why 2012 is only going to be better! In the articles below we will talk about some of our partners...a few of which you may never have expected. And to each of who used your resources, resourcefulness, and relationships to help those in need through NOC, we sincerely thank you!  Lets make partnership, offered to help people in need, more beautiful than ever!

Team Andrews Masters Partnership

An Eyewitness Account from R.D. Saunders

Bob and Terry
Bob and Terry Andrews
Big things happen when leaders take action!  After Network of Caring's Founders Gathering in September, Bob and Terry Andrews, major leaders in Network TwentyOne, took action. After meeting with their team, a veritable "Who's Who" of Network 21 business leaders, Team Andrews made a big decision to raise money for wheelchairs. Once that decision was made, this phenomenal leadership team took action. No one would have guessed the amazing response that occurred. Though the team committed to raise enough for one container of wheelchairs, more than twice that amount came in!

Bob and Terry were quick to give credit to their leaders and team members, who they said worked "tirelessly" without complaint on this project. But the reason this happened was because leaders made a decision and took action...first The Andrews and then their leadership team. They could have easily just given some money on their own and would have felt like they did something good.  But instead they chose to use their resources, resourcefulness, and relationships to do something amazing!  The Andrews Team made a decision and took action and that's how they mastered partnership on this project.

The Andrews Team has shown us an outstanding "Partnership Playbook."
  1. The leader must be committed first.
  2. The leader takes action first by sharing their vision with their key leaders and together choosing a specific goal.
  3. The leader and key leaders cast the vision to the team asking for commitment towards the specific goal.
  4. The leader and key leaders develop a plan for maintaining accountability for the team to reach the goal.
  5. The leader communicates with the team on their progress toward the goal.
  6. The entire team celebrates the victory of reaching the goal.

Team Andrews has illustrated perfectly the outstanding W.H. Murray quote:

"Until one is committed, there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back...but the moment one definitely commits oneself, then providence moves too. A whole stream of events issues from the decision, raising in one's favor all manner of unforeseen incidents, meetings and material assistance, which no man could have dreamt would have come his way."

You've made some decisions and taken action about your business or some other area of your life.  I would like to invite you to make one about Network of Caring.  It might just be making a contribution; you can see above and left how to do that.  We will be so grateful for your support as we seek to help others.

But it is my hope that some of you will be like Bob and Terry and share the idea with your leaders.  What could happen if you followed this Partnership Playbook above with your team?  How might pursuing a challenging goal help to edify your team and increase its morale?  And what could you do if you got everyone involved and really "put yourself out there" for the goal?  It is possible that you might blow right by your goal!  But one thing, as Michael Jordan said, is certain...  "You miss 100% of the shots you never take."

Give me a call 770-622-2121, ext. 401 or send me an email at rdsaunders@networkofcaring.org.  I will tell you how we assisted The Andrews Team to reach their goals and what we can do to assist you and to celebrate your success.

If you are human you probably have some fears about taking action.

  • Don't worry about doing as well as Bob and Terry...they have a large team filled with many great leaders.
  • And don't worry about not reaching your goal...fear the failure to act more than the failure to succeed.

I have learned that the pain of regret is far worse than the pain of failure.  I am convinced you'll succeed anyway... and you might do more for your team through the pursuit of this goal than you ever dreamed!

I am your partner in partnership and I believe that together we can make a monumental difference for those in need.   Profile pic w/ Thai kids

Representatives from Amway One By One, a charitable program for children operated by the Amway Corporation, spent a day with Jim and Nancy Dornan and the Fernando Foundation team recently at Network of Caring headquarters.  It was an incredible day and below is a link from the One By One blog recounting their experiences:

What a Story!

Children Discover the Power of Partnership

Garrett (11) and Marissa Powell (8) are the children of IBOs Gregg and Lesa Powell in Jerry and Sharyn Webb's team. This year instead of gifts for their birthdays which are close together and happen right after Christmas, Garrett and Marisa decided to have a combined skating birthday party asking their party guests to donate to Free Wheelchair Mission instead of bringing gifts. Garrett and Marissa had previously saved their allowances to purchase wheelchairs, so they understood the need.

With 40 in attendance they thought they might be able to raise enough for 5 wheelchairs. But their party friends filled a Free Wheelchair Mission donation jar with $640 - enough to purchase ten wheelchairs. It just proves once again that when you make a commitment, especially to do something good, that big things happen!  Good job kids!

Janae Richards' Story

Janae
Janae Richards (11) is the daughter of IBOs Rick and Rhonda Richards and granddaughter of Jake and Helene Funk. This past September Janae and a friend thought it would be a great idea to do something to raise money for Free Wheelchair Mission and Network of Caring. Janae did whatever she could to get the word out -- she was interviewed at a leadership development conference, sold cards and bookmarks in her neighborhood, sold bracelets at school, and recently, Janae got approval to do a bake sale throughout the month of April at her school.

Janae has raised over $1500... enough money to help over 23 people have mobility in a new wheelchair.  Her passion, vision, and innate leadership ability has allowed her to make an impact on the community and those around her. She has been elected class president and was recently nominated for her city's Pride In Community award.

Most of us can learn a lot from children.  If Janae, Garrett, and Marissa can use their resources, resourcefulness, and relationships to do so much, how much could all of us do if we really decided to do it?  Thank you kids for the humbling lesson!

Network of Caring is only as vibrant and effective as our partners.  We are not NOC, you are! Give your resources, resourcefulness, and relationships a fresh look and think how you might do more for others.  I believe you are only a new commitment away from amazing!  Thank you for all you do to bring help and hope to the neediest people in the world!

Sincerely,

R.D. Saunders
