1776 on her way
She's on her way!
Our SD45 1776 Bicentennial Locomotive
moved to Chattanooga, TN for her makeover!

On January 23, the Virginia Museum of Transportation received a call from a Norfolk Southern crew. They were outside the gates of our rail yard to pick up our beloved 1776 locomotive and take her to Chattanooga. That's where the Norfolk Southern paint shop will give her a much-needed makeover to restore her original red-white-and-blue.

During her trip to Chattanooga, rail fans used Facebook, Twitter and YouTube to keep us updated on her journey.

Thank you for your incredible support and encouragement and donations that have made a professional restoration possible. We can't wait to invite you to the unveiling this summer!

Jim Fulghum, a Roanoke resident and avid auto collector, is displaying his beautiful collection. Mr. Fulghum will be on hand to talk about his collection and his love for all things automobile.

Saturday, March 24 is Model Railroad Day. See intricate model railroad  displays and learn how to start model railroading.

Saturday, March 31 we'll be celebrating Curtis Turner, a Roanoke native and one of the founding members of NASCAR.
