HOT
FLASHES - THERE IS AN ANSWER
This one is not
just for our female readers; men too live with their own type of MENopause,
although it is generally much less physical in nature. Menopause is actually a
readjustment of the ratio of estrogen to testosterone in our endocrine system. Physical
symptoms such as hot flashes and hormonal changes can cause loss of sleep,
fatigue and life disruption; possibly resulting in anxiety, depression, and an
overall diminished quality of life in both sexes.
These
symptoms are commonly seen and treated in women who reach menopause either naturally
or as a result of treatments such as chemotherapy, hysterectomy or preventive medications
that induce an artificial menopause.
Although the effects are "physiologic" -

LIVE WITH THEM
In fact, a
study published in the Journal of Clinical Oncology by Vered Stearns and
colleagues, of the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, looked at menopause, which
came on as a result of the use of medication therapies such as Tamoxifin and
Arimidex, to help prevent the recurrence of breast cancer. These medications
deprive the tumors but also the patients, of estrogen, thereby inducing early
menopause. The researchers "randomly assigned women to receive five weekly
hypnosis sessions or no treatment." They found that "women getting
hypnosis recorded 68 percent fewer hot flashes in their study diaries, as well
as improvements in anxiety, depression, and sleep. Hot flashes also caused
fewer disturbances in their daily lives."
That is
right, you read this correctly, there was an almost 70% reduction in
symptoms. You do not have to suffer
through menopause. There are real and predictable risk free answers to this
problem. Further these spectacular results were after only 5 sessions of
hypnosis. Our program is 12 sessions and I can tell you that many patients do
not fully grasp the use of the self-hypnosis till the 8th or 10th
session, so these results would get even better if a full course of
self-hypnosis training were made available to these women.
Why did this
elimination of the side effects of chemotherapy occur? Simply because once you
visualize yourself as happy and healthy, and remember how to let your body
relax, (its natural healing state), the physical manifestations of many
diseases and side effects of treatments resolve or go away. This is
self-hypnosis. These researchers even went on to hypothesize that the cure rate
of symptoms they saw might be due to a "placebo effect", stating that because
the women expected to feel better, they did.
Yes my
friends, that is exactly what self-hypnosis does; help you to achieve anything
you put your mind upon. This is not magic, or mystical or even a surprise, for
I have seen it work time and time again - it is predictable science. The
effects of self-hypnosis have been well documented in the medical literature
with sophisticated lab tests, MRI and MRA scans and even at surgery.
I have seen this success for more than
a quarter of a century in my practice as a surgeon and I show you just how this

So what can you
do:
*Take 20
minutes a day to bring yourself to a relaxed state, via the self-hypnosis
techniques you can learn from the Audio or CD that accompanies my book, or
learn similar techniques from a qualified teacher of hypnosis
*Exercise in
some manner. Walk, do tai chi, yoga, Pilates or whatever type activity tickles
your fancy but do something on a regular basis
*Eat better.
Less hi fat foods, a balanced Mediterranean type diet and lots of green tea (make
sure you decaffeinate it - I told you how in the last newsletter)
*Embrace and
enjoy the process of gaining years and realize that aging is a state of mind - your
70's, 80's, 90's and beyond can be your best years of your life (More on this
in a future newsletter).
Remember,
through self-hypnosis; you control your mind - which controls your body, not
the other way around!
