Dear
Friends,
I
wanted to share a few thoughts you might consider when making New Years
resolutions this year. The holiday season and New Year come with many wonderful
things, but also a subtle pressure on a personal and often financial basis (the
latter sometimes not so subtle!) Remember, that holidays are more to remind us
to slow down and to enjoy every day. They are symbolic, and the particular day
should not be nearly so important as your personal state of mind. The latter
you can have much greater control over and this is the key to health and
happiness.
There
is a saying in Buddhist philosophy that states it best:
Before
enlightenment, chop wood and carry water,
After enlightenment, chop wood and carry
water
In
other words, it is not the day, time, place or people that matter, nor the
tasks. Holiday season and happiness are simply a state of mind. Here are a few
things you might want to consider to attain your own enlightened state.
Age is not only a
state of mind, but it also actually IMPROVES it!! A study done by Susan Turk
Charles, of the University of California-Irvine, found that mental health and
emotional happiness actually improve with age." Specifically, "older
people have greater emotional control and will limit negative or stressful
situations -- unlike younger adults, who focus more on the negative." So
take time to embrace being a year older and begin to exercise your own personal
control over life. Let go of some of those worries, stressful situations and
negative influences in your life, that ultimately are not important. Remember
that almost 98% of the things you worry about never have any significant
negative impact on your life. Age helps us to understand that from experience,
but why not start now!
Tonight- Drink a cup of
green tea and smell the aroma; take a moment to simply breathe and close
your eyes. Studies show that meditation and drinking green tea decrease your
risk of heart disease and cancer. One cup is good, and 4 cups a day are
reported to decrease your risk by approximately 40%. Remember to decaffeinate
it. Simply put the leaves or bag in, let it sit in a little hot water for a
count of 4, and then spill it and brew your tea with the wet warm leaves. This
takes out 98% of the caffeine, which is in the first quarter cup.
Whatever
your plans or desires, I wish you only peace, love, health and happiness in
this New Year. More than anything, I wish that all the wonderful visions you see
in your subconscious mind become your reality. Those who have read my books,
or who have learned the self-hypnosis, already know the wonderful power of
their own minds. I wish the same happiness and success to each of you in 2010
and ongoing.
Live long, pain free and
prosper,
Scott
