Q: What results should I expect if I get the treatment?
A: The Keratin Straightening Treatment does not make the hair completely straight. It significantly reduces curl, eliminates frizz, and gives the hair extra shine. It drastically reduces blow drying and styling time. It repels humidity, so the hair should not frizz in humid weather. Your hair will still be full of body so it can be styled and curled with rollers, a round brush, a curling iron, or a flatiron.
Q: How long does it last?
A: It gradually returns to normal over three months. After repeat applications, it builds up on the hair and can last as long as five months.
Q: If I have haircolor or highlights, can I still have the Keratin Straightening Treatment?
A: Yes. The Keratin Straightening Treatment actually improves the condition of the hair and seals in the color.
Q: When can I have my color done?
A: Your color can be done the same day as the service, as long as it is before the treatment. After the Keratin Straightening Treatment, you should wait two weeks to color your hair.
Q: Do I have to use any special products to maintain my Keratin Straightening Treatment?
A: Yes. You must use a shampoo that does not have the ingredient "sodium chloride" in it. The Aveda shampoos we offer that do not contain sodium chloride are Shampure and Color Conserve. If you use a shampoo with sodium chloride in it, the Keratin Straightening Treatment will revert back more quickly.
Q: How long does the service take?
A: It can take anywhere from 2-4 hours.
Q: How often can I have the Keratin Straightening Treatment done?
A: A normal maintenance routine would be to retouch the service every three months. It will not hurt your hair to have it done more frequently, as the product is not damaging. It also may last longer for certain clients, so the maintenance may be less frequent.
Q: Can it be done on any type of hair?
A: Yes. It will reduce drying time and add shine and protein to any hair type. If your hair is extremely curly or coarse it will soften the curl and make the hair much easier for you to style. In addition, it will repel humidity and keep the hair from frizzing.
