Greetings!
The holidays are such a wonderful time of year. Here on Marco, the festivities start with Thanksgiving and continue right through the New Year. Thanksgiving makes me grateful for the bounty of my life filled with family and friends, and I wish you the same.
I especially enjoy the joy of Christmas, and wish you the very best of the season. Stop in to the studio and share some cookies and enjoy the scents and music of the holiday. Please accept my gift of free shipping for the month of December on paintings large and small whether you are purchasing for yourself or someone else.
With the New Year, I'll spend some time reflecting on the past year's accomplishments and making a list of some goals for the new. Let's all work to making it a better year for our fellow citizens and for our country!
All around, the holidays are a special time with family, friends, food, gifts, carols, and magical decorations. If possible, try helping someone less fortunate. There are many who haven't faired well in the difficult economy, and it won't take much to make a difference in someone's life. You'll feel the warmth of the season, and spread some joy as well.
Speaking of the difficult economy, I'm happy to work out a no-interest lay-away plan for your new painting. A handful of clients right now are using this method to pay for a painting they're proud to own.
However you celebrate, may your holidays bring you much satisfaction. Best wishes for a New Year filled with good health and happiness! |

Everglades
The Everglade skies are quieting down as the wet season gives way to the dry season. The colors slowly warm as the air cools and the spring and summer growth begins to dry out. There's much less threat of rain, the migrating birds are returning, and the animals are beginning to congregate in areas of deeper water.
It's a great time to visit. You can go with any one of the very competent guides who offer Everglades trips. You'll learn about the environment, and they'll know exactly where to go to show you some wildlife.
But there's some appeal to take a hike at no cost and on your own time. I wrote a blog post about visiting the Fakahatchee on your own, and you can read it here.
When you look at my paintings, you'll find it easy to know what time of year I painted, or made the photo or sketch to paint from. The skies of the summer wet season paintings are filled with clouds and the winter dry season paintings the sky is clear! |
Collector 's Corner
When you purchase an original painting, what do you get for your money? What's the value you'll take home?
First, you get to keep something tangible. If you go out to dinner, once it's finished and you pay, the value is used. Hopefully you've enjoyed both the meal and the company, but you get and you give, and it's over.
Same thing with a book. You pay your money, or visit the library, read the book and put it away. Hopefully you get an idea or message to take away, or maybe even read the book over, but that's it.
Likewise with a concert. You can spend a fortune on a ticket for the very best seats. You'll love the camaraderie of the evening, and go home singing with a warm heart. Still, the next day your money is gone and it's just a memory.
Whereas a painting can bring you pleasure for life. When you purchase an original painting, something in the work, some pattern, some color, some response to the image the artist created has evoked an emotional response in you strong enough to make you take a second look. You love it and want to own it. You pay for an original and it's yours.
The next day it looks great on your wall. Your friends come put it away. You may read it again, and hopefully find an idea or two to take away, but once you've read the ending, there's nothing new.
in and admire it. You love seeing it change as the light moves through your room. When you enter you see it from a distance, and it's pleasing. You get closer, and enjoy searching out the details.
As your whim and your life changes, you move the painting from room to room, and it adds character and depth to your home. As the years go by it becomes a treasured family heirloom and you know that one of your children will also enjoy it. Now that's lasting value!

In the Studio
I'm happy to report that the Artist Colony at the Esplanade was able to negotiate a new lease for the coming year. Having a studio there has been so rewarding for me. I love talking with residents and visitors to the Esplanade, and find my time spent there is productive and creative. Having other artists around to share an idea or a critique is an added bonus.
A number of my paintings are visiting other locations this month. If you're out and about, look for a piece or two of my work at the Marco Airport, at Rookery Bay, the Naples Art Association, the Marco Art League, Iberia Bank and Naples Bay resort. I also have hung paintings at Drs. Poling office, and the Marco Island Morgan Stanley office.
I'm delighted to be one of 300 artists who have been asked to participate in a fundraiser at the Naples Museum of Art. All of the works are 8x10 and will be chosen by visual connection to the work alone. Patrons will not know who the artist of their work is until they make their choice and look on the back! |
