Uncommon Paintings, Lasting Value

Surf fishing

Greetings!

Although the dry season will remain until the beginning of June, it's much welcome spring here on Marco Island.  The citrus just about to bloom and will perfume the air with the scents of orange and lemon by month's end.  Orchids are sending out bloom spikes, although serveral were damaged by our colder than usual winter;  As it warms up it's a great time of year to be out and about painting or for a walk in the Glades.  Maybe I'll see you along the trail!

Big Cypress Swamp Welcome Center
The new Big Cypress Swamp Welcome Center will have a Grand Opening on February 27th this month.  It's on the south side of SR 41 just about 20 miles past the crossing of SR 29.  This multi-agency facility will introduce Collier County residents and visitors to the Big Cypress area of the greater Everglades through exhibitions  about the swamp, the environmental and political challenges facing protection of the area, and its many recreational opportunities.  It's a green facility, too, and there'll be an exhibition about how it all works.  You can see some of what's planned and become a Doner yourself here.
Thanks to collectors and friends who purchased in January.  I appreciate your support!

Things to know

Here are some things that you might find helpful as a begining art collector:

A red dot on a work means that the work has been sold.  A green, or half red dot means that there's a first refusal on the piece.

Most artists/galleries will let you trade up to a more expensive piece when your tastes change or you see something you love more. I'll usually do this, too.

Most artist/galleries will let you "try out" a work, and most will let you purchase on time without interest.   This is the best way to be sure.  I welcome opportunties to have you take home a work on approval.

Primary market means the first sale of a work, and "secondary" means a resale of a major work, most often via gallery or auction.

When you begin checking on what ''your'' artists are creating and finding that owning a fine piece of art gives you long-lasting satisfaction, you are moving from being an art purchaser to an art collector.  I'd love to have you among my many satisfied collectors!

In the Studio
Several new paintings are underway in the studio, and I hope to finish a very large piece that's been languishing about for too long.

I'm going to be trying out some new palette colors in preparation for the Color Confidence class I'm teaching in March.  You can sign up at the Art League if you're interested.

News about  the Marco Island Arts Community

It was so good to hear at a press conference the end of January that the Marco Island Center for the Arts is making good progress on it's goal to become financially sound.  Local artists as well as Marco Island business are stepping forward to support the efforts of this island institution.  If you are able, send them a check, buy something in the gift shop or take a class.  If everyone does a little, the Art League should be back on solid ground by June.
