Greetings!
A very Happy New Year!
Thank you for your kind and generous support!
The start of a New Year gives us a chance to look back on the highs and lows of the past year, and to look forward into the future. Since I love starting the New Year fresh, I do a lot of cleaning out and cleaning up in preparation for the New Year.
There were a couple of people who had made a difference in my life that deserved special thanks, but hadn't been recognized. Done! My clothes closet was full of old things that needed to fine new homes, Done! My studio needed cleaning, and some hopeless paintings thrown out. Done! I'm as ready as I can be for 2010
I'm wishing you a wonderful New Year year, filled with new hope for the future of our delicate planet, joy in our families, health, happiness, and freedom from want. What are your wishes for 2010? |

Everglades Historic Purchase
Southwest Florida Water Management, the agency that manages the flow of water south of Lake Okeechobee has approved a revised strategy to acquire huge swathes of land from the United States Sugar Corporation for Everglades restoration.
The benefits of this acquisition to our water, to the Everglades and Florida's coastal estuaries are immense, providing us with the opportunity to restore a unique and treasured ecosystem in ways not previously envisioned," said SFWMD Governing Board Chairman Eric Buermann. "By approving this revised acquisition, the Board has balanced its duty to both the environment and the taxpayers, embracing this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity while protecting the agency's mission responsibilities."
W hen complete, it will be the largest single acquisition of land in the District's history. Additonal purchases will be possible under the agreements. Benefits from the acquisition would include:
- Increases in water storage to reduce harmful freshwater discharges from Lake Okeechobee to Florida's coastal rivers and estuaries.
- Improvements in the delivery of cleaner water to the Everglades.
- Preventing tons of phosphorus from entering the Everglades.
- Reducing the need for "back-pumping" water into Lake Okeechobee.
- Sustainability of agriculture and green energy production.
- Managing Lake Okeechobee within a more desirable ecological range.
It's a nice start for the new year! You can learn more about SWFL Watermanagements 2009 successes here. |
Thanks to collectors and friends who purchased in 2009. Your support allows me to continue to paint the wild and wonderful Everglades! |
Collector Corner
While a frame for your new artwork can be a very personal decision, guidelines have shown that certain types of frames work better for certain types of work.
In general, the landscape work that I do looks best in a simple frame, often called a "plein air" frame. The simplicy allows the painting itself to be the focus, rather than be overwhelemed by its frame. On the other hand, a fancy or oversized frame can help the work to become more decorative, look more important and to hold it's own in a small space.
If you are unsure about what will work in your home, consult a professional who you know has been in business for some time. They can offer you knowledgeable, professional guidance to ensure that your new painting suits you and your decor perfectly. |
Never leave a painting mediocre; it's better to take a chance with it. Guy Corriero |
In the Studio
As you can see from the schedule, there's a lot going on as we swing into season. I'll be in the glades or in the studio as much as possible working to translate the beautiful landscape that I love into a painting that you can enjoy for years. I'll still be posting the small daily paintings three times a week on the blog. You can see them here. |
