Marco Island has a wide range of holiday events to enjoy, and we take great pleasure in them all. Still, I can't go through the holidays this time of year without a bit of nostalgia for New England. I think fondly of snowy nights with the glow of Christmas lights shining through frosty windows. Then I come to my senses and am grateful for our lovely weather!
Hope your Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, or whatever holiday you celebrate this time of year will bring you much joy and good memories. Stop into my studio for a gingersnap and some art talk!

Everglades Marsh Trail
I walked the new Marsh Trail in the Fakahatchee with relatives over Thanksgiving, and and found it to be a lovely, easy walk.
Just over a mile long, with palms, water, birds, and a distant alligator, it met all the needs of a family walk. At the end of the day the light was magical and I was sorry not to have my paints. I did have my camera, so I'm sure there's a painting or two there.
The access is just three miles from Seminole State Park, with a nice parking lot and a boardwalk. A nice walk along with or instead of Big Cypress Bend, when you want a little wilderness or have visitors with a little time. |

Collector Corner
When a person engages in an art or music project, their brain comes out of neutral and becomes engaged in complex and multi-solution problem solving.
This is especailly important for our young students. Making art and music engages the brain for problem solving and developes and enhances observation skilles. Students exposed to art and music do better on standard tests than those who have not engaged in the arts.
In an article in 2007, the Boston Globe states, "The implications are broad, not just for schools but for society. As schools cut time for the arts, they may be losing their ability to produce not just the artistic creators of the future, but innovative leaders who improve the world they inherit."
As a collector of original art, you have the opportunity to engage a young person in your passion. Try it, and you make change a life! |

In the Studio
It's a busy time in the Studio with several commissions to finish, and paintings to ship in time to become surprise gifts for someone special. I'm also working some new work, that I hope to be showing early into the new year.
I'm also getting ready for a class in beginning acrylics that will start January 5th. It will be every Tuesday afternoon in January. Call the Art League at 394-4221 if you're interested in taking the class. |

Artists give great parties! The Grand Opening of the Artist Colony at the Esplanade was a huge success with all segments of Marco's diverse populaton attending and having a great time. Thanks to the Marco Players, the Middle School Jazz band, the Foundation for the Arts and the Center for the Arts, all who helped to make the Grand Opening fun for all.
Now that the weather is a little cooler the Outdoor Artists are growing in numbers, and painting outdoors every Wednesday. All artists are welcome, and you can see the schedule here. | |
