The Art of Calligraphy at the Cenacle

Did you know that each prayer card you order for a loved one at the Cenacle is personally hand painted and finished with gold calligraphy?

The Cenacle Prayer Enrollment Office has two in-house calligraphers who have years of experience in the art of calligraphy. Prayer cards are sent as an acknowledgment that prayers have been requested for your loved one. Prayer cards are available for many occasions, including weddings, graduations, birthdays,  holidays, recovery from an illness, a death, and others.

Sue Klein, top picture, left standing: From 1996 to 2006, she was the manager of 2 veterinary hospitals. In November 2006, she joined the Cenacle as Prayer Enrollment Office Manager. Sue provides and leads customer service clerks and calligraphers in providing friendly, pleasant, and helpful service to all those who access the office. She is responsible for maintaining and overseeing the business area of the office and staff. "I enjoy working at the Cenacle and helping the Sisters with their ministry of Prayer Enrollment."

Lori Melanson, top picture, center standing: Lori joined the Cenacle as a clerk in April 2009. It is her cheerful voice you hear when you place an order for prayer enrollment. Of all the places she has worked, Lori loves the Cenacle best because, "It is serene and peaceful."

Lila Crotty, top picture, right standing: Lila has been doing calligraphy since she was a teenager. Before joining the Cenacle staff the first time in 2003, she worked in information technology at Chevron for 25 years. Lila returned to the Cenacle in 2007.

Beth Toombs, top picture, seated, besides being the receptionist greeting you on the phone, she also takes your orders and answers your questions when you stop in personally at the Cenacle.  Beth has been at the Cenacle since July 2007. Before joining the Cenacle and before Hurricane Katrina, Beth worked at a nursing home as an assistant bookkeeper. "I enjoy the peaceful surroundings at the Cenacle and working with the rest of the staff."

Kim Dozier, bottom picture, multi-tasks as a calligrapher, clerk taking orders, and fill-in receptionist. She has been doing calligraphy since she was 10 years old, that was 22 years ago. At the tender age of 14, she taught calligraphy. Kim is self-taught and became interested in calligraphy because it was a dying art that she wanted to help keep it alive. She has a son and daughter. "The Cenacle is a great place to work. It is so peaceful." Kim joined the Cenacle staff in July 2005.
