Ready, Set, Go: It's The Human Race!

Santa Cruz Harbor Gene poses with her proud BaitTank If you haven't heard, over $100,000 in funding was recently cut from Save Our Shores.

But did you know there's a fun and easy way to help make up some of this lost funding?

The Human Race is a time when our community bands together to raise funds for local non-profits and schools. It's not about competition, but rather a whole lot of fun along beautiful West Coast Drive in Santa Cruz. Contact Scott with any questions or call us at 831.462.5660 ext. 1.

Advocacy Update

SOS at the Capitol for Oceans Day

Save Our Shores hits the Capitol for Oceans Day! On March 26, Laura Kasa and Lauren Gilligan spoke with state leaders about sea level rise, desalination, salmon protection, and most specifically, MPAs, plastic bag bans, and Styrofoam bans.

Santa Cruz County's plastic bag ban is in full effect. SOS and SC County handed out 1,000 free reusable bags on March 20! See photos... Read the full story...

The City of Santa Cruz unanimously agrees to draft a bag ban! With the County ban in place and the City's EIR nearly complete, City Council expects to hear the ordinance in May.

Carmel moves forward on their plastic bag ban. Submit comments in support by April 17! Go to: www.ci.carmel.ca.us, click Govt > Staff/depts > Community Planning > Bldg. Then Take Action on May 9 to support the ban at the Carmel City Council meeting at 4pm.

Concerned with the threat of being sued by the Save the Plastic Bag Coalition as well as the cost of an Environmental Impact Report, the Cities of Capitola and Scotts Valley are looking to combine efforts, if possible.

Capitola expands Sytrofoam ban to prohibit the sale of Styrofoam plates, cups, bowls, peanuts, and coolers within Capitola city limits. The County and City of Santa Cruz are moving forward with expanding their Styrofoam bans, as well. Read Capitola's ordinance...

Help us win the fight against plastic pollution!

Volunteer with Save Our Shores!

Get set for Earth Day on Saturday, April 21:

 Protect endangered Leatherback turtles!

Santa Cruz Harbor Gene poses with her proud BaitTank

The largest of all sea turtles, the Pacific leatherback migrates 12,000 miles each year to delightfully dine on California's jellyfish.

California lawmakers have proposed making the leatherback turtle the state's marine reptile, which will improve education and conservation measures while supporting leaterback protections.

Take Action today to give leatherbacks the recognition they deserve!

 Introducing the
Newest BaitTanks

BaitTanks hit the steps of Santa Cruz County
Thank you, Santa Cruz County, for installing two new BaitTanks a few weeks ago. The BaitTank on their front steps has already collected and prevented 1,000 cigarette butts from polluting our watersheds!
