Three Easy Ways to Save Our Shores Before the End of 2011
The Rewarding Life of a SOS Sanctuary Steward
By Curtis Luckado, Steward Class of 2011
Presenting our Brand NEW Adopt-a-Levee Program!
From the Tannery to the ocean, we are looking for groups to help spearhead the new Adopt-a-Levee program in Santa Cruz! In collaboration with the City of Santa Cruz, the Adopt-a-Levee program will be the first of it's kind here on the Central Coast. Did you know river cleanups remove an average 3 times more debris from our watersheds than beach cleanups do? This means that Adopt-a-Levee groups will make a huge impact on the health of our marine environment by taking stewardship of the San Lorenzo River into their own hands. Each group must commit to at least 3 river cleanups before the end of June, 2012, and you can leave the rest to us! Are you up for a new challenge, Santa Cruz? Contact emily@saveourshores.org or 831.462.5662 ext 5. Join the Discussion for a Monterey Bay Sanctuary Scenic Trail Don't let the Davenport to Seacliff coastal corridor get overlooked! Three upcoming workshops invite the public to engage in the planning process for a bicycle and pedestrian trail network in SC County. Though planning has been focusing on the rail line while the coastal corridor trail is getting lost in the dust. Find out more here...

Call on Congress to Protect Bluefin Tuna
Bluefin tuna are on the brink of extinction. With market prices for bluefin meat soaring, it has become the most sought after fish of our time. And since the BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico last April, the spawning ground for all Western Atlantic bluefin tuna has become even further jeopardized.
