BantheBag

Tis the season to DOUBLE your impact for a healthy marine community by having your donation matched by Monterey County Gives OR the Sutherland Fund! Here's how:

1. Donate through Monterey County Gives: Your Donation will be MATCHED by the Monterey County Weekly's Community Fund! Find Save Our Shores under 'Environment & Sustainability.'

2. Meet the California Challenge: Help Save Our Shores reclaim $100,000 in state and federal funding that was cut for 2012.

3. Donate through The Sutherland Fund: New Members who join by December 31st will have their membership gift DOUBLED by the Sutherland Fund!

The Rewarding Life of a SOS Sanctuary Steward
By Curtis Luckado, Steward Class of 2011

"I had three goals for the summer of 2011. Do something that would benefit my local community, be outdoors as much as  possible, and hopefully learn something in the process. The Sanctuary Steward program allowed me to achieve all three. It wasn't until I was out of the Steward classroom and onto our local beaches that the true value of being part of Save Our Shores became shockingly clear.  Curtis reaps the rewards of Stewardom

Presenting our Brand NEW Adopt-a-Levee Program!

Adopt-a-Levee Program hits the San Lorenzo River

From the Tannery to the ocean, we are looking for groups to help spearhead the new Adopt-a-Levee program in Santa Cruz! In collaboration with the City of Santa Cruz, the Adopt-a-Levee program will be the first of it's kind here on the Central Coast.

Did you know river cleanups remove an average 3 times more debris from our watersheds than beach cleanups do? This means that Adopt-a-Levee groups will make a huge impact on the health of our marine environment by taking stewardship of the San Lorenzo River into their own hands. Each group must commit to at least 3 river cleanups before the end of June, 2012, and you can leave the rest to us!

Are you up for a new challenge, Santa Cruz?

Call on Congress to Protect Bluefin Tuna

BantheBag

Bluefin tuna are on the brink of extinction. With market prices for bluefin meat soaring, it has become the most sought after fish of our time. And since the BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico last April, the spawning ground for all Western Atlantic bluefin tuna has become even further jeopardized.
