Gearing Up for Annual Coastal Cleanup Day 2010

AnnualCoastalCleanupDay

The 2010 Annual Coastal Cleanup Day (ACC) will take place on Saturday, September 25th, from 9am - 12 noon. The event will be Save Our Shores' largest volunteer effort to date because this year we're leading ACC Day in Monterey County, too!

Show your support for the ocean by joining the largest volunteer effort in the world, where last year, over 100 countries around the globe took part in the biggest beach cleanup on the planet.

In 2009, about 4,000 SOS volunteers removed close to 14,000 lbs of trash and recyclables from 50 sites throughout Santa Cruz County. We couldn't do it without you.

Plastic Bags -vs- the World

plasticbagmonster

From South Australia to Texas to Maui and the Stanley Cup, plastic bag bans are surfacing everywhere we turn these days.

Can you believe Californians use 19 billion plastic bags a year?
AB 1998, the California Assembly Bill to ban single-use plastic bags, is gaining support from consumers and retailers around the state, but the final vote rests in the hands of the Senate this August. Help keep our oceans free of plastic bags by Taking Action to help pass AB 1998!

You can also join the Plastic Bag Monster rally on Thursday, August 12th @ 10am in Ghirardelli Square, San Francisco, because every once in a while, politics can be a whole lot of fun.

SOS Takes on Monterey

orcawhale
Save Our Shores just launched our Monterey Monthly Beach Cleanup Program and the next cleanup takes place on August 14th at Asilomar State Beach.

We'll need Volunteers to take the lead on this new program by running beach cleanups & getting the word out about our new-found presence in Monterey County.

Help us continue to grow our big, blue network and give the marine animals of the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary a healthier, safer home, with cleaner beaches for us all.

Spread the word! Email volunteer@saveourshores.org to get involved.
