The Fight Against Offshore Oil Drilling Continues

HandsAcrosstheSand

Hands Across the Sand Protests
Over 250 protesters joined Save Our Shores & Surfrider at Cowell Beach in Santa Cruz on Saturday, June 26th, to participate in the largest international protest against offshore oil drilling in history, Hands Across the Sand. People gathered in over 800 sites across North and South America, Europe, Asia, Australia, and Africa unified under one message: NO to offshore oil drilling. YES to clean energy.

Email Barbara Boxer & Diane Feinstein
to let them know you support their bill that calls for the permanent protection of California, Oregon, and Washington from new offshore oil leases. Clean energy and the protection of our coastal economies comes first.

Save Our Shores Works to Keep Small Spills at Bay
When you think of oil spills you immediately think of the current BP disaster in the Gulf of Mexico and the Exxon Valdez. But most people would be surprised to learn that smaller oil spills occurring in our ocean on a daily basis amount to roughly 11 million gallons, the same amount of oil that spilled during the Exxon Valdez crash of 1989.
Learn how Santa Cruz, Monterey & SOS have prepared for oil spills...

Did you know there are 27 offshore oil rigs in California waters?
Visit our information-packed offshore oil drilling page to learn more about what you can do to help in the Gulf; from donating hair, money, or volunteer hours, you can make a difference.
If your focus is locally, check out how our Clean Boating Initiative helps keep small spills out of the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary.
