Save Our Shores' Events

The End of the Line Film Screening in Santa Cruz

When: December 16th 6:30pm-10pm
Where: Rio Theater 1205 Soquel Avenue in Santa Cruz
Who: Save Our Shores, FishWise, Ocean Conservancy, Greenpeace and Assemblymember Bill Monning

End of the Line

Imagine an ocean without fish. Imagine your meals without seafood. Imagine the global consequences. This is the future if we do not stop, think and act.

The End of the Line
is the first major feature documentary film revealing the impact of overfishing on our oceans.  In the film we see firsthand the effects of our global love affair with fish as food.

It examines the imminent extinction of bluefin tuna, the impact on marine life resulting in huge overpopulation of jellyfish and the profound implications of a future world with no fish that would bring certain mass starvation. Watch the trailer.

Tickets are $3, available at the door.

Before the screening we will hear from our Assemblymember Bill Monning, a leader in sustainable seafood legislation.  Then after the screening, we will be joined by a panel of local experts to take your questions and discuss ways to get involved in solutions for the future.  Please join us for what is sure to be a great event for friends and family!

No Impact Man is the story of a guilty, New York liberal who decides to practice what he preaches for ONE YEAR (turns off the electricity, stops making garbage, gives up TV, taxis and take out & becomes a walking, bicycling, composting, tree hugging, polar bear saving, local food-eating citizen), all while taking his baby daughter & caffeine loving, retail-obsessed, television-addicted wife along with him. Watch the trailer.

Pre-event reception begins at 6:40 pm and the film begins at 7:15 pm f
ollowed by a community discussion on reducing your impact by Dr. Wallace J. Nichols (SOS board member and founder of Ocean Revolution).

AT&T Birdies for Charity Drive

Birdies for Charity
Birdies for Charity is a fun and easy way to make a donation to Save Our Shores!  Similar to a walk-a-thon it is a pledge drive based on the total number of birdies made by PGA TOUR professionals during the 2010 AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am golf tournament, Feb. 11-14, 2010.

Great prizes, too! The lucky person who guesses correctly before the contest closes on February 10th, 2009 will win two Continental Airline Tickets worth up to $500 each.  Plus other great prizes for anyone who enters.

For a pledge form, go to the Pebble Beach Website and be sure to designate Save Our Shores!
