A Great Community Opportunity
Participate, Sponsor, Volunteer or Donate - Make a Differene for the C.A.R.E. Program

The Long Beach Triathlon is the longest running local sporting event focused on bringing awareness and financial support to the C.A.R.E. Program at St. Mary Medical Center, Long Beach.  The 2009 event will be the 11th Annual triathlon, and founders of the event would like to get more community member involvement from the cities of the Greater Long Beach and South Bay areas.

The C.A.R.E. Program is the largest medical provider of HIV services in the Greater Long Beach, and with the exception of the Long Beach AIDS Walk, Long Beach Pride, and the Long Beach Frontrunners, the C.A.R.E. Program has never benefited financially from any other sporting event or walk conducted throughout Los Angeles County or the state. Most people who donate to sporting events and walks throughout LA County do not realize that the millions of dollars raised in certain events do not go to other agencies and services.  The Long Beach Triahtlon is the only sporting event supporting the C.A.R.E. Program, and your financial help and involvement is needed now more than ever.

The healthcare field and HIV programs accross the state are currently experiencing serious funding cut backs, and the people who will suffer the most are the patients who are disabled and those who are living below the federal poverty level.

Every year over 1200 athletes swim, bike and run for a great cause.  Please get involved in any of the following ways: if you are an athlete, you can get financial sponsors to  help you raise at least $250 above your registration fee.  If you are a community business member, you can sponsor an athlete or donate directly to the event.  If you are a community member who cannot participate nor financially sponsor an athlete, please call today in order to register as a volunteer on the day of the event.

To participate in the triathlon as an athlete please contact: Long Beach Triathlon or call Pacific Sports at call 714-978-1528.

To Donate or Sponsor an Athlete go to: Active.com/Donate/Long BeachTriathlon

To Volunteer contact the C.A.R.E. Program

Together we can make a difference in our community.  We here at the C.A.R.E. Program are committed at keeping our community healthy.
The Long Beach Triathlon
About the Triathlon

The Long Beach Triathlon is a fast paced three-sport event that will take place on Sunday, September 20, 2009 at 7:00 AM, along the Long Beach City downtown shoreline.  "This will be the 11th annual triathlon, and we are making it into a fundraising event.  I hope that through this event, the Long Beach community could come together and recognize that HIV is still a big problem in this community", said Karen Kachigan, founder of the Long Beach Triathlon and owner of Competetive Acquatic Supply in Huntington Beach, who started the event after her brother died of AIDS.

As a sprint triathlon, the race covers roughly half the classic Olympic triathlon distance, where athletes compete in a ½ mile swim, an 11-mile cycling race, and a 3-mile run.  This triathlon is ideal for novice and intermediate athletes, yet attractive enough to draw the top tri-athletes on the West Coast circuit.

All proceeds from the triathlon go towards supporting the Comprehensive AIDS Resource and Education (C.A.R.E.) program at St. Mary Medical Center, the largest comprehensive HIV provider in the Greater Long Beach area.

Now more than ever, non-profit community based organizations like the C.A.R.E. Program need financial support from its community and stakeholders.  To sponsor an athlete or make a tax deductible donation to the event, please log on to:

Volunteers are also being recruited to help staff the triathlon.  Volunteers will not only support these courageous athletes during the competition, but will also help the people who depend on C.A.R.E. for services and support.  Some volunteers will be needed as early as 5:30 AM.  For more information on how to volunteer, please contact Carlos Ruiz
Thank you for your involvement and support to the C.A.R.E. Program.

Sincerely,

Carlos Ruiz
