PRESENTATION OF LEARNING REFLECTIONWOW! I hope you had a chance to catch at least one of the presentations of learning this past Friday. At KPS, we have always had terrific displays of learning in individual classrooms but this was the first time we decided to do it all at once and formalize it a bit. We are so proud of our students. Prior to the presentations, we had an Aloha Circle. Kumu Mauli reminded students that sharing our learning must come from our hearts and our heads. We also reminded the students that while it's one thing to know something in your head, it's quite another to be able to share it with others from your heart. When we have knowledge, it is our responsibility to share it with others. The children added to the collective knowledge base of our community by sharing their learning with others. We know from recent brain research and from social learning theory that learning must be engaging and authentic in order to "STICK". We hope the images and special moments from our Presentations of Learning STUCK in your hearts and minds.
Thanks to all the teachers for their patience, gentle leadership, creativity and inspiration!! KPS Is lucky to have such a gifted group of instructors!

- Michael Maroney for powerwashing the yurts and the main building and for painting the eaves!
- Maria Walker for pitching in to help us clean the school in time for Open House when we were in a pinch

- Dr. Menezes for bringing in some cow hearts to make learning about the human body VERY authentic

KPS PARENT NIGHTDR. JASON OHLERMARCH 17TH, 5:30 P.M. AT KPS
Dr. Jason Ohler, author of Digital Storytelling in the Classroom, will be coming to work with KPS teachers and students on March 17th and 18th. Dr. Ohler is a keynote speaker, humorist, futurist and digital storytelling expert. He is also an expert on 21st century literacy. The KPS faculty had a Skype session with Jason last August and we found him delightful. He holds a wealth of knowledge, is personable and thoughtful. Dr. Ohler will be interesting to anyone excited about teaching children to live, work and play in the digital age. Please RSVP to this event by March 1st! We need at least 10 parents in order to offer the session. E-mail Lisa at lisa@kauaipacific.org if you can attend.
