THOUGHTS FROM THE PRINCIPAL
OPEN HOUSES FOR PROSPECTIVE PARENTS
FRIDAYS, FEBRUARY 26TH & MARCH 12TH
10:00 A.M. - 12 NOON

KPS will soon be hosting two Open Houses for Prospective Families. Please forward information about the Open Houses to friends who might be interested in learning more about what our fabulous school has to offer children.  The Open Houses will include a brief tour, a short presentation and a question and answer session.  Children are welcome and encouraged to attend.

The success of these open houses depends on each and every parent at KPS. If every family makes the commitment to invite at least one other family, we will have a terrific turnout. We are also in need of a few volunteer parents to help us greet the prospective families, hand out packets, tell people where to go and to provide more personalized tours.

Please help spread the word. To date, only 15 of our current students have re-enrolled. Three new students have enrolled for 2010-2011. We have about 7 new applications pending but we have a long way to go to get to our target of 60 students enrolled by March 15th. Please show that you care enough to keep our school open by turning in your yellow re-enrollment surveys this week (enrollment contracts and fees are due March 15th but the surveys will help us get a good idea sooner). If you have any questions, about the Open Houses or about re-enrollment, please contact Lisa at lisa@kauaipacific.org or at 828-1144.

I hope that everyone is having a wonderful, long weekend!

Clock 2
START TIME SURVEY FOR 2010-2011

The KPS teachers are very interested in switching to a new daily schedule for 2010-2011 to support teacher collaboration.  We would like to get a feel for whether parents would support this model. We have drafted a schedule where school would start at 9:00 and end at 3:15. So far 85 % of parents who have responded to the survey are in favor of the change. We will keep the survey open until February 19th for those of you who have not had a chance to take the survey.

DR. JASON OHLER
MARCH 17TH, 5:30 P.M. AT KPS

Dr. Jason Ohler, author of Digital Storytelling in the Classroom, will be coming to work with KPS teachers and students on March 17th and 18th.  Dr. Ohler is a keynote speaker, humorist, futurist and digital storytelling expert. He is also an expert on 21st century literacy. The KPS faculty had a Skype session with Jason last August and we found him delightful. He holds a wealth of knowledge, is personable and thoughtful.  Dr. Ohler will be interesting to anyone excited about teaching children to live, work and play in the digital age.  Please RSVP to this event by March 1st! We need at least 10 parents in order to offer the session.  E-mail Lisa at lisa@kauaipacific.org if you can attend.

THIRD AND FOURTH GRADE NEWS

Grade 3/4 has been extremely busy this trimester.  The class have just finished their Explorers Past and Present unit where they completed a digital photostory.  They presented these photostories to friends and family during our photostory theater.  The parents  commented on how much they learned during the presentations.  Great job 3/4 students!  The class is now studying "Our Human Body".  In this unit the students are investigating basic structural systems of his or her body, which include the skeleton, joints, muscles, and the way these systems work together to provide movement and coordination.  Finally, the class is preparing for our presentation of learning day on February 26th.  The class will be presenting their public service annoucements for Ocean Preservation.  The students will present their PSA projects and discuss their project's findings, timeline, reflections, and conclusions.  We would like to invite all family, friends, and community members to come and visit our class for this exciting Presentation of Learning.
