THOUGHTS FROM THE PRINCIPAL

I love the heightened focus on gratitude at this time of year when we turn our attention to celebrating our various traditions with family and friends. I especially love the Thanksgiving holiday since it's a whole day devoted to thankfulness and sustenance.

Here at KPS there is much to be grateful for..

  • The smiles of our amazingly talented and creative students.
  • The giving hearts of our parent community. We know how much time and energy you give to our school and we are extremely grateful for it.
  • The energy and expertise of our teachers. We love you guys! We are lucky to have such a talented and diverse group of educators working with our children.
  • I need to do a special thank you to art teacher Denise for all the amazing work she has done on this Film Festival. if you see her, give her a big thank you and hug! This event would not have been possible without her.
We checked in with our 5th and 6th graders  to see what they are grateful for these days and thought I would share their inspiring answers with all of you to brighten your day.
  • Bodhi Stergion - I am grateful for my mom and how much she  is doing for our school.
  • Kaihalana Locey - I am grateful for my life and my mom.
  • Kyle Barnett - I am grateful for food and friends to play games with. I'm also grateful for a great school!
  • Eli Smart - I am soooo thankful for my parents!
  • Sam Goldberg - I am grateful for an amazing school 5 minutes from my house.
  • Leaf Lieber - I am grateful for my dad. I am also grateful for life.
  • Quentin Allen - I am grateful for the 5 animators that came in and taught us how to draw characters.
  • Noah Fiorilli-Nemeroff - I am grateful for my life and I am also thankful for my family.
  • Manix Wolan - I am grateful for friends.
  • Kai Maroney - I am grateful for my little brother. He is nice, he is easy and he is cute!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING FROM

HI-5 RECYCLING BACK IN FULL SWING AT KPS

Kauai Pacific School is proud to announce the re-opening of the HI-5 recycle center.  Families are encouraged to bring their HI-5 plastic, aluminum, and glass to school beginning next week October 19, 2009.  Please make sure that these items have the HI-5 stamp and are properly cleaned and prepared (no caps).  Ask your children to tell you how to know which items are HI-5 and how to prepare the items (they have all been trained by the County Recycling Director).  Please use separate bags for glass, aluminum, and plastic.  The goal is to reduce our trash in our homes and our school through recycling.  The money raised will be used to further our eco-friendly programs.

ANNUAL GIVING OHANA DRIVE IN NOVEMBER AND DECEMBER

Be on the lookout for communication regarding this important fundraising drive. Our goal is $55,000 with 100% participation from each family.
VOLUNTEER HOURS

If you have volunteered any time since the beginning of school, please drop by the office to fill out a volunteer log so that we can better keep track of your hours.  Thanks for your assistance with this! We appreciate all of our volunteers!

Grade 3/4 Class News

The grade 3 / 4 class has been doing a fantastic job in their Ocean Preservation unit.  They have been learning about the ocean habitat, adaptions for marine plants and animals, and threats to our ocean.  The class has decided to take an in depth look at the "Big 3" ocean threats (overfishing, overdevelopment, and pollution) to the Hawaiian Islands.  They are researching the causes and solutions for each threat in teams.  These teams headed out into the field (Haena, Annini, and Kapaa) Thursday to gather film footage of these threats and possible solutions.  The teams will then put together public service announcements to inform the world about these threats and what we can do to "Save the Ocean".  Way to go class!  Special thanks goes out to all the collaboration that make this unique learning experience come to life.
PREKK Class News

The PKK class is studying their senses and emotions.  Last week they experienced a blind trust walk with a little help from their 5th and 6th grade students! One of our favorite quotes was from Bodhi Moomaw (PREK) who said of his experience, "I felt like crying and then Noah (Grade 5) made me feel good!"

Enjoy the photos!
