Dear Kaua'i Pacific Ohana,
This is an exciting time in our school's journey. We are officially Kaua'i Pacific School! Over the next few months, you will see the changeover on all levels. RenWeb has been updated, our new web-site is up and t-shirts have been ordered. Although we have a new name, new mission and new core values, rest assured that your children will continue to be nurtured, cherished and challenged.
Earlier this week, reenrollment materials were sent home with your child. Don't forget that through May, we are also offering a $500 tuition credit for families that you refer who enroll in our school. You can help us out by forwarding the press release we sent you on Monday to all your friends to help spread the word. You can also direct people to our web-site, have them call Lisa at 828-1144 or just tell them to drop by during normal school hours. One thing we learned during our strategic planning process is just how important internal marketing is! We know that our parents are our best resource to help us increase enrollment. We would love to start the school year with 65 students! This will require all of us working together to share the excitement about our school.
We hope you all had a wonderful and relaxing Spring Break. Fourth quarter will be busy with Earth Day on April 22nd, Student Led Conferences on April 22nd, 23rd and 24th, the Talent Show on May 8th, our Spring Fundraiser on May 15th and Graduation on June 4th. If you want to help with any of these upcoming events, please contact Lisa at 828-1144 or lisa@kauaipacific.org.
Mahalo nui loa for your support!
Lisa
P.S. We are experimenting a bit with the newsletter format. Let us know how you like it. |
NEW E-MAILS
As part of our changeover, we have updated all of our e-mails. You can just change the extension from kula.org to kauaipacific.org when you want to e-mail one of our teachers. We also have a general info@kauaipacific.org address that you can use which goes to Laura, our wonderful office assistant. Lisa is lisa@kauaipacific.org. |

Malia Searby, Grade 2 Sam Goldberg, Grade 5 KAUAI MUSEUM 2009 K-8 STUDENT WORKS EXHIBIT Congratulations to our Creative & Talented Students
This island-wide show awards 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in three categories including 2D, 3D, and Photography. The grade levels are not broken down so we are thrilled that our students won 1st place in 2 of the 3 categories! This means their works was selected above all the other K-8 student submissions in their categories! Special thanks to our amazing art teacher Denise Dion-Scoyni for teaching our children to express themselves so beautifully! Way to go Malia and Sam!

It's the final quarter of the school year, and Ryan will continue to offer his After School Program until the very end! For those students whose parents may be working or otherwise occupied when school gets out, as well as for those students who can use some extra help with homework, or who want to join in for some extra playground and social time and/or arts & crafts and games, it is Ryan's ambition to provide a safe, supervised, and stimulating environment. Ryan also strives to keep the program affordable and flexible to accommodate the needs of parents and the community (Fees range from just $8 to $10 per day, and drop-ins are welcome). The program is based in the covered lunch area at Kauai Pacific School, and students will have access to the playground, restrooms, and classrooms (when needed). The After School Program runs on days school is in regular session, beginning at Dismissal time and going until 5:00 pm every day (when possible, Ryan will also offer the After School Program during Early Dismissal days, on a drop-in basis and with a special schedule. Call Ryan for more info).
More detailed information and sign-up forms are available directly from Ryan McGill, and can also be found in the Kauai Pacific School office. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Ryan at (808) 639-6269, or via email at ryan@kauaipacific.org . Mahalo!

GRADUATION 2009
Meeting on Monday, April 20th
Our annual graduation celebration will be held on Thursday, June 4th at 10:00 a.m. at Anini Beach Pavilions. Our entire community comes together for a festival of song and dance to congratulate and celebrate with our 6th graders . Graduation is one of our many traditions. If you have not attended one in the past, you are in for a treat. ALL of our students from grades K-6 perform and they have already started to prepare in their Hawaiian Studies and Music classes! To put on an event of this magnitude requires everyone's participation. The first committee meeting will be held on Monday, April 20th right after school. We need a potluck coordinator, a flowers/greens coordinator, someone to coordinate set-up, someone to design the graduation program, a dressing room coordinators and someone to coordinate clean-up. Please call or e-mail Licia McDonald if you can attend the meeting or if you can't attend but are willing to help out. |
Once again we will be cleaning up Anahola Beach Park for Earth Day, April 22nd. Students will report to school - please be on time! Our tentative schedule is as follows:

8:45 Eco Friendly Team Builders/games 9:00 Break into teams/clean up the beach 9:45 Snack 10:00 Reflections through art, story or dance 11:00 Swim 11:45 Head back to school for early dismissal. We also need a few parents with big trucks to take what we collect to the sub-station! Please let your class teachers, Lisa or Laura know if you can volunteer to help this day!

THE MAGIC OF LIFE
"For magic to happen in your life, you must believe in magic." - Grandmother
As we guide our children through life, we need to remember not to focus so much on reason and rationality that we block out the indescribable feeling of awe we should be sharing with our children. Give you children a life filled with M&M's - mystery and mastery-so the doorway to life opens before them. Magic is another M that will come to them if you give them the freedom to explore possibilities. Just because you can't explain it or understand it does not mean it didn't happen or doesn't exist. Keep your world, and that of your child, open to all possibilities. |
