Mission Accomplished!
A World Vets veterinary team spent the summer aboard the USNS Mercy as part of the Pacific Partnership mission to provide humanitarian aid to Indonesia, Philippines, Vietnam and Cambodia. Our team worked alongside military veterinarians and technicians, as well as, veterinary professionals of the host nations providing care to a variety of animals including water buffalo, cattle, cats, dogs and a variety of birds.
The veterinary team provided health consults to a total of 7,296 animals with a total of 21,218 procedures. Thank you to our volunteers who donated their time to make a difference to so many animals during this project. See pictures of the 2012 Pacific Partnership mission.
Pacific Partnership is an annual U.S. Pacific Fleet humanitarian and civic assistance mission designed to work by, with and through host and partner nations, non-government organizations and international agencies to build partnerships and a collective ability to respond to natural disasters.

World Vets Latin America Surgical Training Center

It's a Wrap!
World Vets has successfully wrapped up the 2012 summer sessions of our International Veterinary Medicine (IVM) Program. This new program operated for three months in the summer at our Latin America Surgical Training Center in Granada, Nicaragua. We had 146 students participate who gained invaluable skills and knowledge, particularly in relation to performing veterinary medicine in a foreign country. As part of the program, our instructors and students provided free veterinary care to over 3100 animals (cats, dogs and horses). See our Facebook IVM photo album.
We would like to thank our local partners, the 31 volunteer veterinarians and the 12 volunteer veterinary technicians who helped make this program such a success.

Flaco before treatment by World Vets Team
|
Meet Flaco
Flaco was just your ordinary street dog. His name says it all, Flaco, which is skinny in Spanish. When veterinarian Sarah Seitz found him, he was covered in mange and had several open sores with a large abscess. What's more, he was full of intestinal parasites and had a ruptured ligament in his knee.
Fortunately for Flaco, he was nursed back to health by one of our teams during the International Veterinary Medicine Program operated in Nicaragua this summer. One of our veterinary volunteers, Jessica Harrison, even went a step further and gave him a temporary home until his forever home was found with Julie Smith.
Flaco is enjoying his new home and a life he never knew existed. See Flaco's before and after pictures in our Facebook album.
