 Dr CathyHello All!

It's hard to believe summer is over, but we have a lot to show for the last few months.  Some of these things include launching our International Veterinary Medicine program which will commence next summer,  we  also provided training in sterilization surgery for countless vets and students as well as deployed many veterinary teams around the globe.

We hope you will enjoy catching up with our activities!

Summer Deployments

Aside from our veterinary teams on board the hospital ships missions, Pacific Partnership and Continuing Promise, we had 5 other teams deployed this summer in Mongolia, the Dominican Republic, Peru, Ecuador and Nicaragua.

Team Mongolia trekked across country to a remote region near the Gobi desert and treated 1200 goats, sheep, yak, camels and horses.   See pictures

Team Dominican Republic provided not only crucial sterilization services but also surgical instruction to local veterinary students.

Team Peru provided the first ever large scale sterilization campaign in Cusco with the support of the municipality and Fondation Brigitte Bardot.  See pictures

Team Ecuador worked well into the night each clinic day to not turn anyone away which resulted in 240 successful sterilization surgeries in just over a 3 day period.  See pictures

Team Nicaragua not only provided a sterilization campaign but sutured up an injured crocodile before its re--release and then traveled to a rural community to treat large animals. See pictures

Surgery for Sola
sola

Sola is a special dog that we saw before one of our scheduled clinic days. She had developed a huge mass on her left cheek that was getting bigger as the days went by.

sola surgeryLuckily our team was there to perform surgery and remove the mass from her face before it worsened or became fatal. She has now made a full recovery with no signs of the mass returning.

Nicaraguan Training Session

With the instruction of  Dr. Tom Parker, Dr. Jasson Figueroa and tech Claudio sx2Mayorga, 11 Nicaraguan veterinarians and veterinary students received training in spay/neuter surgery.

More training sessions to follow!
