Dr Cathy

Hello All!

What a whirlwind it has been - attending the Asia for Animals conference, preparing for our summer trip deployments, and planning for our fall endeavors - our work never ends!

We are very pleased to announce that our shipment of veterinary supply and equipment donations for Timor Leste have arrived! These donations were shipped onboard the US CLEVELAND as part of the civil-military mission Pacific Partnership.

As part of this shipment we sent a wheelchair for a Timorese dog "TOHA".  The details of her story can be found in our newsletter below and it is a must read. We hope it will inspire you to have a positive impact on the animals of our world.

Japan Animal Disaster Relief

Within 72 hours of the earthquake and tsunami in March 2011, World Vets had a first responder assessment team en-route to Japan. Since then, World Vets  has held a presence in Sendai, Nigatta and Tokyo and maintains two veterinarians in Japan.

To date we have accomplished the following; established partnerships as well as coordinated efforts with the local veterinary community and Japanese based animal welfare groups, organized and shipped various large pallet loads of pet food, shelter supplies as well as veterinary medicines and equipment from North America to Japan. In addition, we have also provided veterinary assistance to animals living in shelters along with those living outside of evacuation centers.

We are committed to the health and well being of the animals impacted by the Japan disaster. We continue to support our local partners as it relates to their needs.

Hospital Ship Missions 2011

This summer World Vets has veterinary teams on board the Pacific Partnership and Continuing Promise missions.   Both are operated on a annual basis by the US Navy in collaboration with partner and host nations as well as NGO's to provide humanitarian aid to South Pacific nations as well as those in the Caribbean and Central and South America.

Donations On Board

pp11shipmentOn board the hospital ships this summer, World Vets has shipped 4 large pallets of donations of veterinary supplies and equipment destined for two locations en-route. We are excited to announce that both shipments have now reached their finpp11tlshipmental destinations: Nicaragua and Timor Leste. We would like to thank Fondation Brigitte Bardot for making these shipments possible!

  "TOHA" gets her Wheels

tohaAs soon as we heard about "TOHA" from our local partner in Timor Leste we knew we had to do something to help her. Dr. Antonino Do Karmo explained that TOHA narrowly escaped death when she was rescued from a restaurant, about to be served as its next meal. As a result of this ordeal she lost both hind limbs rendering her unable to walk.

Thankfully we were able to acquire and send a wheelchair along with our shipment of veterinary equipment and supplies headed for Timor Leste onboard a navy ship.

Now TOHA has a new-found mobility sporting her custom wheel chair, complete with pink accents and a license plate that bears her name.We would like to thank Alison Acott for facilitating the donation of the wheelchair.

Donkey Project

Last year Woafrica donkeyrld Vets conducted a pilot project in Tanzania that provided aid to the working donkey population. One of the major issues our team encountered related to the colleen donkeyhandling techniques of the donkeys. Halters and leads are widely not available nor used so donkeys are led by sticks.  For our follow up visit this fall we are looking  for donations of light weight pony sized halters as well as leads.

All pony size halters and/or leads will need to be received at our headquarters office  located at 802 1st Ave N, Fargo ND  58102, by September.  Thank you!

Veterinary Supply Donations

DR donationsOne way that World Vets supports international animal welfare charities is through donations of veterinary supplies. From Costa Rica to Egypt to India and Turkey, many animal organizations are the lucky recipients of World Roatan SantiagoVets aid each year.

To register an international animal welfare charity with World Vets, write to donations@worldvets.org.

Also, when you donate veterinary supplies to World Vets you can feel good about them getting to those who need it the most!
