Hello All!
We have been super busy here for the past couple of weeks - working with our Japanese partners to bring veterinary supplies and care to the animals affected by the earthquake and tsunami. More work still needs to be done!
We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone that has donated and shown their support for our efforts in Japan thus far. Please watch our Facebook page for updates and photos.

Japan Animal Disaster Relief |
In response to the recent earthquake and tsunami, World Vets has reached out to the veterinary community in Japan, specifically in Sendai - an area affected by the tsunami where animals are reported to be isolated and injured.
Working with a large coalition of Japanese animal welfare groups and international aid organizations, World Vets deployed a first responder assessment team on March 15 and has sent a follow up relief team on April 6. We also have a veterinarian who will be there long term to coordinate our ongoing efforts and provide direct veterinary care to animals in need.
In addition, we are making arrangements for shipments of large quantities of pet food, veterinary supplies and shelter supplies and working to identify and respond to the needs of the Japanese groups, to support their efforts.

Japan: How you can Help |

If you'd like to help our efforts in Japan, here are a few things that you can do:
1. Create an online fundraiser on Crowdrise.com and get your friends and family to donate
2. Purchase collapable cages and send to our headquarters office: See requested cages here
3. Sell something on ebay and select World Vets as the beneficiary of the sale (via mission fish)
4. Organize an online auction through Charitybuzz.com to benefit World Vets |
Ayuda! Guatemala |
This February World Vets held its first sterilization project in Guatemala. Our team set up two campaigns around Lake Atitlan with local animal welfare group Ayuda! And in just 3 days they sterilized over 100 animals. Photo album coming soon!

Spay/Neuter Training |
World Vets is excited to announce that we have received two grants to develop a surgical training center in Nicaragua. This center will provide free instruction to Latin American veterinarians and veterinary students in spay/neuter surgery.
During our sterilization campaigns in Latin America, we routinely involve local veterinarians and veterinary students but have found that most have received very little, if any, training in spay/neuter techniques. By implementing this program we feel it is one big step toward a long term sustainable solution to pet population control.
We'd like to take this opportunity to thank Fondation Brigitte Bardot and the Summerlee Foundation for their support of this initiative.

Veterinary Teams Finalized |
We have finalized veterinary teams for two US Navy humanitarian aid missions; Pacific Partnership and Continuing Promise. Our teams will live onboard a Navy ship and provide free veterinary care onshore in 14 different countries this summer!
We also finalized our veterinary team for our Mongolia pilot project where we will provide veterinary assistance to sheep, goats, camels and horses in a remote area located near the Gobi desert.
