Registration Packets -please return immediately

Registration packets were sent home with every Oak Grove student on Friday, May 4, 2012. They were due on Friday, May 11, 2012. If you have not returned your packet, please do so as soon as possible. Please be reminded that Student Placement Concerns forms are confidential and only read by Mrs. Moore and Dr. Neely.

If you did not receive a registration packet, please contact your child's homeroom teacher. If you know of a new family in the neighborhood, please let them know to come to the school to pick up a registration packet. Thank you!

School Council Elections

Stacy Keadey is running for the open position on our school council for 2012-2014.

My name is Stacy Keadey, and I am the mother of two boys at Oak Grove. I have been a Board Member of the Oak Grove Foundation since it's inception, and will be a new addition to The PTA stacykeadeyBoard. I have also served on the PTA Board at Lakeside High School, as well as two years on the PTA Board at Coralwood, and one year on their School Council. I am currently employed at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta as a RN in the emergency department.  In addition to my degree in nursing, I hold a bachelor's degree in Child Development. I thank you for your consideration.

Voting
Voting for the open position will take place on Friday, May 18, 2012 from 7:00am to 7:00pm. Each parent may vote one time. You may vote in person in the school's main office or you may email your vote to ogeschoolcouncil@gmail.com. Votes in person or by email will not be taken except on May 18, 2012 from 7:00am to 7:00pm.

Please note that it may seem odd that we are holding an election for one position with one person running. However, we are required to hold the election. Thank you.
Instrumental Music Registration

This morning, a section of students from our band and strings classes performed an instrument demonstration for our third graders. Third grade parents should be receiving a hard copy and an email with registration information today. Band and Strings registration forms must be turned in to the homeroom teacher by Friday, May 18th. If you have questions about Band and Strings, please contact Dr. Neely.

Current fourth grade band and strings students must re-register if the student wishes to take instrumental music in 2012-2013. Students who are not already in Band or Strings also have the opportunity to register. Fourth grade parents will be receiving an email with registration information today. Band and Strings registration forms must be turned in to the homeroom teacher by Friday, May 18th. If you have questions about Band and Strings, please contact
Dr. Neely.

Please note that instrumental music classes do not require that your child have any previous experience with an instrument. In addition, we are asking that you do not purchase instruments over the summer. Please wait until you receive communication during the first week of school regarding instrument choices.

Mr. Fowler, our Band Director this year, will be returning next year. Mr. Clatts, our Strings Director, will not be returning. We will have a new teacher in Strings.
Safety Patrols Selection

For the last two weeks of school, a small selection of fourth graders are chosen to serve as Safety Patrols. We will announce the 30 new patrols later this afternoon. More than 60 applied. The application process included two teacher recommendations, a self-assessment, and a parent signature on the application. Choosing just 30 for the initial group is a difficult process because the students' scores are very close to one another.

Please keep in mind that we will select a much larger group of patrols (up to 100) in mid-September 2012. This year, every fifth grader who desired to become a patrol did so by working hard, making good grades, and maintaining the behavior required of a student leader.
