The purpose of these tests is to measure student performance in the
content areas listed above.  By teaching the Georgia Performance
Standards, our teachers have been diligently preparing students for these tests since the beginning of the school year.  We are confident that our students are prepared.

You can help by taking the following steps:
1. Limit evening activities prior to testing so that adequate time is
provided for rest.
2. Discuss the importance of testing with your son/daughter.
3. Provide two #2 pencils daily.
4. Provide a nutritious breakfast.
5. Ensure your child is present and on time each morning. If possible,
please avoid scheduling doctor/dentist appointments during the testing period.
6. If an issue arises that may impact your child's performance, please
contact the school at phone no. 678.874.7402.

SRTSClassroom Challenge!
Safe Routes to School
WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We had 356 walkers this Wednesday for our annual Classroom Challenge which is more than half the school!  Unbelievable and awesome particularly since it was misting rain! Way to go kids and parents!!!!
And a big congratulations to Mrs. Hinton's class for winning the
Classroom Challenge with 21 walkers!! Each child received a $5.00 Target gift card.

If you noticed, the carpool line was virtually empty. It would be
great if we could do that every week!!

We will sponsor one more Walking Wednesday for the school year which is next Wednesday, April 25th. Please plan on walking or biking to school so we will have another fantastic turn-out.
Remember to be safe and be seen!
calendarDeKalb Schools to Weigh New School Calendar
in 2013-2014

Apr. 19, 2012 - The DeKalb County School District Calendar Committee has recommended to Superintendent Dr. Cheryl Atkinson that DeKalb Schools adopt a new balanced calendar for the 2013-2014 school year, one that includes more instructional opportunity for students throughout the year.

The School District Calendar Committee recommended that the District not make changes to the upcoming 2012-2013 school year calendar, which the DeKalb County Board of Education approved in 2010. Based on the committee's suggestions, the Superintendent will make a
recommendation to the Board of Education in May regarding a process to build a new 2013-2014 calendar. The School District calendar for the
2012-2013 school year will not change.

An online survey seeking community and employee input on the School
District calendar recorded more than 36,000 responses, which were
incorporated into the Committee's recommendations.  "I'd like to thank the Calendar Committee and the many people in the
DeKalb Community who provided their ideas and input regarding our
2013-2014 school calendar," Dr. Atkinson said. "Working with parents,
teachers, students and the community, we will build a 2013-2014 calendar that will provide ample instruction throughout the year and help improve student success."

foundation"Thank You" from the OG Foundation

The Oak Grove Foundation would like to thank everyone that attended the Party with a Purpose "Kiss the Blarney Stone" event on March 17th. The event was a HUGE success, and we could not have done it without your attendance as well as the wonderful volunteers and sponsors that made the event happen. While we are still waiting to get a final count - we believe that this was another big success with nearly $30,000

in profit being raised for the Foundation and ultimately our school and children!!

Many thanks to Stacey Lucas and Christi Gallo for Co-Chairing the event as well as Suzanne Bridgers, Reed Richardson, Kris Shea, Renee Long, Stacy Keadey, Jessica Bandy, Ronit Hoffer, Beth Burgess and many others that helped on site that day and evening to set up, tally bids and tear down.  (Forgive us if we forgot to mention your name here!) We know it takes a village and we truly appreciate everyone's part!

A very special THANK YOU to Mrs. Beth Deery for the amazing artwork produced by the kids!  Once again, she out did herself to create beautiful and creative art for the auction!  foundation logo

music_manLakeside High School Presents "The Music Man"

The Lakeside High School Fine Arts Department presents Meredith Willson's "The Music Man" as its debut performance in their new Fine Arts Auditorium.

"The Music Man" tells the story of traveling salesman, Harold Hill, and his visit to a small Iowa town in 1912 where he meets and falls in love with the librarian, Marian Paroo. With his fast-talking style, "Professor" Harold Hill convinces the town that unless they adopt his revolutionary music program, the youngsters of River City will be forever doomed. He gets the parents to buy instruments and expensive uniforms in order to form the River City Boys Band. Chaos ensues as Hill's credentials are questioned and he is called upon to prove himself to the citizens of River City.

Oak Grove Elementary student Daniel Newmeyr joins former OGES students Clayton Chambers, Ross Cudmore, Riley Dugan, Gareth Kanter, Phoebe Warren, Maggie Smith and Abby Bocinec as part of the cast and crew for this show.  Don't miss this wonderful musical production, certain to be another LHS show-stopper!

All seats are General Admission and tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students. Performances are slated for:

Friday, April 27 @ 7 pm
Saturday, April 28 @ 2 pm & 7 pm
