The PTA Buildings & Grounds Committee led by Mark Richardson and Gust Xides (and funded by the Boosterthon Fun Run proceeds) sponsored a tree planting near the HVAC unit near the side parking lot. These trees will mature to grow tall and provide a screen around the unit. The view from third grade classrooms and from the side of the building is already much improved!

Congratulations to both teachers for being such great role models for our children!
If you observe other staff exemplifying such healthy behaviors, please consider nominating them by e-mailing Margaret West at mrh0@cdc.gov. Two faculty/staff will be recognized in both April and May.

Dress Code Reminder
It is important for student safety that all children wear closed toe shoes
every day. All children go to PE three times per week and spend at least
15 minutes on the playground for recess. In addition, remember that
spaghetti straps and halter tops are not to be worn to school. Girls
should consider wearing shorts under dresses so that undergarments are not shown during playtime, PE, recess, and carpet time.
As a reminder, the information below is located in the student handbook.
Dress Code
Students' dress should be neat and allow for maximum comfort in a learning environment. In no way should a student's dress be a distraction in the classroom. Any dress deemed inappropriate by the teacher or an administrator will be addressed. Students violating the dress code will be given an opportunity to go to the clinic to change clothes, or in cases where no other appropriate clothing is available at school, may be sent home to change into appropriate clothing. Students should adhere to the following dress standards:
- Hats, caps, bandanas, headbands, or any other unnecessary headcovering are not to be worn at school and before and after school on school buses, unless announced for special occasions.
- Clothing with obscene or suggestive language, promoting gangs or violence, or racial or cultural insensitivity is not permitted, along with any clothing articles that advertise alcohol, sex, drugs, or tobacco.
- Crop tops, halter tops, or any other shirts exposing the midriff are not allowed.
- Shoulder straps on dresses, blouses, or shirts must be wide enough to support the garment.
- Clothing should be proper fitting and not be oversized for the student. This allows for greater ease of movement and safety.
- Pants are to be worn so that underwear is not visible.
- Dresses, shorts, skirts, or skorts must be at least mid-thigh length and extend below the fingertips when arms are hanging downward.

Walking Wednesdays!
Safe Routes to School
We had 187 walkers this past Walking Wednesday -- even with the cooler temperatures!!! Way to go Oak Grove!!! The weather has been very nice lately, so please continue to walk and/or bike to school so we can continue to cut down on traffic. It's a great way to start the day!
As a reminder, our Classroom Challenge will be held next
Wednesday April 18th. Parents at the carpool entrance and exit and at the backdoor of the school will tally how many kids from each class walk or bike to school. Each student in the class with the most students walking or biking that day will receive a $5.00 Target gift card, so please plan on participating!
Remember to be safe and be seen!
