 Celebrate DeKalb's Farm-to-School Day - March 22nd
Oak Grove Elementary recently received a $1,500 grant from GA Organics and the DeKalb Board of Health to continue to promote Farm-to-School for the remaining of the school year! We will be providing additional opportunities for nutrition education in the upcoming months including... a 5th grade science experiment designed to take place in the garden along with a gardening class offered to OGE staff and families this spring.
Next Tuesday at the Family Book Fair Night, we will have a local chef, Mike Chornyak, providing taste testing, so don't forget to stop by.
This month's DeKalb Farm to School Day will be on Thursday, March 22nd and the item will be locally grown Carrots. Nutrition and Wellness Committee members will be present in the cafeteria encouraging students to try the item of the month on that day. We invite parents to each lunch with their children and share in the excitement. The committee will continue to provide interesting facts about the item during the morning announcements the week before. Please encourage your student to try the carrots on this day - either purchased as part of their lunch, a la carte for 75 cents, or brought from home.
If you have additional questions or would like to volunteer to help with the monthly event please contact Margaret West at mrh0@cdc.gov |
