Police Ticketing to Begin
On Friday after dismissal, you may have driven by Oak Grove and noticed several police cars and motorcycles. Due to parent and community concern regarding traffic and driver behavior expressed to the DeKalb Police Department, a team of police officers will be out in force in the area surrounding our school for the next couple of weeks. This team (approximately seven officers) visited the school and the area late Friday afternoon.
A team of police officers will be ticketing for:
1) Speeding in a school zone 2) Parking or waiting in your car in a no-parking zone 3) Parking in a space that is not a clearly marked parking space (for example the far ends of the circle drive and the far ends of the on-street parking in front of the school). 4) Turning left at a no left turn sign or during no left turn periods of time (arrival and dismissal) 5) Passing on the right around cars turning left from Oak Grove Rd. to Fair Oaks Rd (in front of the church) 6) Running the stop sign off of Crestline 7) Ignoring the crossing guards and moving your car too close to the crossing guards 8) Dropping students off from across Oak Grove Rd (not a cross walk) 9) Crossing the double yellow lines to go around cars waiting to enter Oak Grove Elementary 10) Parking along both sides of any of the area side streets 11) Parking with your car facing the wrong direction in a parallel parking space or along a side street
One thing that every family can consider in helping us solve the traffic jam at arrival and dismissal is to have children ride the bus. In addition, if you drive part of the way and then walk in, please park in allowable areas and do not allow children to cross the street where there is no crosswalk. Remember that parking along both sides of a street is prohibited.
Thank you for taking extra caution in the future as you come and go at Oak Grove.

Don't Miss Out on the Yearbook!
Although it seems like the end of the school year is a long way off, our yearbook must be sent to the publisher with the final book order before the end of February.

The yearbook committee wants to be sure to have a copy for everyone who would like one. Many people placed orders during registration in August. Envelopes were sent home this week with any student who has not already ordered one. The cost is $20 (cash or check), and checks should be made payable to Oak Grove PTA. The deadline is Thursday, February 16th.
There will be a small number of extra copies available for purchase in May, but the only way to be sure to get one is to reserve your copy now. Don't miss out! If you have any questions, please contact Marilee Doran at Marilee.d3@gmail.com |
