Lakeside Holiday Basketball Clinic
The Lakeside Tip-Off Club is hosting a Holiday Basketball Clinic on Monday and Tuesday, December 19th and 20th, from 9-2 in the Lakeside Gym. Boys and girls in grades2-8 of all skill levels are invited to join the Lakeside coaches and playersfor 2 days of fun, instruction and scrimmages. The cost is $90 for pre-registration and $100 on registration day. Lunch and a t-shirt are included! Register now with the flyer (click here to download).  Literary Guild Update
* Attention 3rd, 4th, and 5th Graders *
We are fast approaching the First Literary Review of the the school year. The Literary Review includes lunch, ice cream cake and great discussion on books read. To qualify, you must have completed a level of Literary Guild by January 11. January 11 will be the last day you may take a test for qualification. The Literary Review will take place the next week. All students who have completed a level by January 11 will receive an invitation to the Literary Review. Don't worry if you have not completed your level yet. There will be another Literary Review in May.

Sign Up to Share at Career Day
Dear Oak Grove Parents,
I hope this reaches you in good health and spirit. During the month of January, our students will be given the opportunity to learn, hear, and discuss various careers through classroom guidance. The month will end with the grand finale Career Day.
The Counseling Department is so grateful for your efforts to assist with educating our children about careers. Thank you so much for volunteering your time to do this. Career Day will be held on Friday, February 3, 2012 from 8:00 am - 12:00 pm. As a guest speaker you will be asked to share your career, training, education requirements, and other pertinent aspects of your job to our students. You will rotate between three to four classes and will speak for approximately 25 minutes each. It is advised that you spend 15 minutes sharing your profession and 10 minutes for questions/answers. Props are welcomed and audio/visual equipment is available i.e. television, DVD Player, SmartBoards, and LCD (limited; please request these items upon receipt of this letter). Please complete and send me your Career Day form (click here to download) if you wish to volunteer.
It is the mission of our Counseling Department and school to fully meet the needs of every child by giving them every possible resource available for productive citizenship in the 21st century.  Reflections Update - County Level
CONGRATULATIONS to two winners at the County level of the Reflections Contest: Molly M.-2nd Grade, who won for her photography entry and to Evelyn L.-5th grade, who won for her beautiful entry in Visual Arts.

 Oak Grove's Second Grade Teacher Wins Grant
Laura Bolsen recently won a Junior League mini-grant to support healthy lifestyles and promote cardiovascular health for students. The funds will be used to purchase three class sets of resistance bands, five balance discs, and several exercise & dance DVDs. These items will be available for staff and students to use in their classrooms in the event of unsatisfactory weather conditions, or simply for a midday exercise break. Congrats to Mrs. Bolson!

 Boosterthon Donates Picnic Table and Waste Receptacle
A new industrial picnic table and waste receptacle have been added to William's Pavilion thanks to our partner, Boosterthon. This new furniture was made possible by the gift Boosterthon presented to us early this school year for being one of their top fundraising schools.

The Oak Grove Drama Club welcomes new K-5th graders for our 12 week winter/spring session that begins after winter break. We are now registering on-line at www.dramachildren.com for the following classes: NEW CLASS for 2nd-5th graders will meet Wednesdays at 3:45, K-2nd will meet either Wednesdays at 2:40 or Thursdays at 3:45 and 2nd-5th graders will meet Thursdays at 2:40. Explore the world of the imagination in one of our four weekly classes and have fun learning about acting, characters, costumes, vocal and movement improvisation, theater games, mythology, puppetry, story telling and many performance opportunities available for all participants. Registration is limited to 15 kids per class.
